biomedical sciences to diagnostic radiography

I have recently applied to biomedical sciences at london southbank, and my careers teacher who specialises in university applications told me I could transfer after the first year of the course to diagnostic radiography at the same university, but I wanted to make sure that was true. I do have a plan if it does not work after the degree, but was just wondering.

Yep should be true but you need to have the pre-requisites/A-levels relevant to the transfer course, do check out the transfer FAQ here as well: https://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/showthread.php?t=1781424

It should be fine but just double check with the uni, they won't mind you asking 🙂

When transferring you just need to make sure the credits and modules match up so transferring after year 1 between biomedical science and say maths wouldn't work as the modules wouldn't match or be appropriate. Hopefully, that makes sense but if not just let me know 🙂

You would have to start at year one again with the DR course, you wouldn't be able to transfer into year two. Being an AHP course, there are both taught modules and placement modules - you can't skip any. Is there a reason why you are not looking for DR places in clearing (although I appreciate there are no courses in London in clearing) or taking a gap year rather than starting a course you don't intend to finish?

My parents are not very open to a gap year and prefer I just took this route instead, especially since I live with them. I would have taken it, but my alevel grades aren’t the best either. I did spend a while calling up london unis and all of them said there were no spaces left. 🥲

Do you mind sharing your grades? DR courses average around BBB. Do you prefer to stay at home rather than moving outside of London?

I had gotten B & D in psych and bio, I am missing my chemistry grade as OCR have not given them to us yet for some reason. So the entire class is left with a ‘Q’ grade until they tell us what we got. But I was told by teachers that this would be a better step especially since my grades don’t reach the requirements. I do prefer staying home due to money.

Therapeutic radiography is still in clearing for LSBU if you would prefer an AHP course to biomed. It's often overlooked by DR applicants and yet the working hours are much better (no night or weekend shifts). It's also available at St George's.

Depending on your location in London, we are only a short train journey away and have places for diagnostic radiography. Happy to answer any questions around this and our @CCCU Health Rep can help as well! 🙂

If DR is your passion, it would be a shame to spend a year studying neuroscience (and an additional year of student finance) and then transferring to year 1 of DR, but I completely understand your preferences to stay close to home to study etc.

As CCCU Official said, we have spaces available through Clearing for DR for September and we are not far from London on the high speed train (we are based in Canterbury for DR), and do have some students who commute in from London for their course 🙂
The DR team are lovely and the facilities we have for you to train are top notch, and our courses are the only pre-registration courses to include accredited training from the Chartered Management Institute, meaning you are able to obtain this additional qualification at no additional cost, and simply by completing your pre-registration course!
