Resits & Vet Med (D100)

I did not get into any unis this year due to my grades and I am going to resit all 3 subjects. Im worried that this will disadvantage me when applying to uni for 2025. I will include a paragraph in my personal statement explaining the circumstances and why i performed worse than expected but I know not all unis look at personal statements because they don't use them, instead they use SAQs and SJTs. I was wondering if anyone knows which unis are more likely to let me in on resit grades and which (if any) I should avoid applying to as i am concerned that if i apply to a uni known for not letting students in on resit grades i will be wasting an opportunity to apply to another uni that is more likely to let me in. Also because I will be applying in October of 2024 but applying for September 2025 start does that mean I will need to imput the results I got today into UCAS because if so i'm worried unis wont except me for interviews or anything if they see those scores. If anyone has any advice I will be eternally grateful. Thanks!!!!!!

If anything, willing to re sit your exams to get better grades for next year shows you have comittment, stamina and that you really want to do your degree. I wouldn't bother saying why you are re-sitting. They won't know why you are re-sitting unless you volunteer the information.

Hey there,

I'm afraid I can't advice you on which vet med schools accept resits. I would recommend emailing a few universities and ask if they accept resits for vet med just to avoid those that don't accept them.

You say you performed worse than expected and that there is a reason for this - for future reference, if anything impacts your performance you should have let the exam boards know in time so it is taken into consideration. But it's too late for that now, sadly. You can always request your referee to include it in their reference to be extra certain it will be read. But the universities will probably not care much for this info.

And yes, you do need to declare the results you got this year on UCAS. The universities will be understanding that you're resitting and hoping to get better grades.

Hi, so I'm a resit student and from the research I've done, RVC and Nottingham accept one re-sit per subject. Some other unis will also allow them only if you have extenuating circumstances for which you will need to provide evidence. So if you have a legit reason then definitely include that, you can check the unis websites to see how to go about the process. Sometimes I think you can include the circumstances in your reference. Honestly if you are serious about veterinary, don't give up I got much better grades this year than last year and have got a provisional offer for vet.
Also, you do need to include the results you got last year but don't worry about that what matters is the results you are gonna get next year so keep going!

Hi, best advice is to check the websites course info and call each one you are interested in before applying, for example Liverpool used to ask for a grade increase so A*AA rather than AAA. Daughter applied to Notts, Surrey and H&K which all accepted resits. You will need to still have your predicted grades and UCAS support for application, are you resitting at school? Use this as a learning opportunity, it shows resilience and determination and dealing with a set back.
