Ah I didn't know SOAS did a two-year accelerated LLB! Have you visited both universities and done your research? Which one are you leaning towards?

Don't go to ULaw it's a waste of money and time, they don't give you a proper education or experience for a Law degree whatsoever. Speaking from experience as I've just withdrawn from ULaw and starting at a different university this September.

I'm starting again from Year 1 at my new uni, because I know that the knowledge I gained from ULaw was not good enough and it's best to restart.

Hello,

I totally get why you’re having a tough time deciding between the University of Law and SOAS they both have their strengths, but it really depends on what you're looking for in terms of your legal career.

If you’re aiming to get into the legal field quickly, the University of Law 2-year Accelerated Law degree could be a great choice. The program is designed to give you a solid legal education in less time, which means you can start working towards your career sooner. You’ll benefit from smaller class sizes, so you'll get more individual attention from lecturers, who are all qualified solicitors, barristers, and judges. The focus on practical skills means you’ll be well-prepared for professional training and the real world of law. If you like a fast-paced environment and are eager to dive straight into your legal career, this could be a perfect fit.

SOAS, on the other hand, offers a more international and academic take on law, with a focus on global legal issues. If you’re passionate about studying law with a broader, more global perspective, SOAS could be the right place for you. But, if you’re looking to get into a law firm and start building your career as quickly as possible, the University of Law Accelerated Law degree might be the more direct path.

In short, if your main goal is to get into the legal profession as soon as possible and gain practical, career-oriented skills, the University of Law 2-year program would be a solid choice. It’s a focused, hands-on course that’ll set you up well for your future in law!

Hello,

As far as I know, SOAS does not have an accelerated 2-year law degree available.

I am currently studying Law LLB at SOAS and I would highly recommend it. SOAS is known as the world's university because we learn law in the context of all the regions we specialise in (Africa, Asia and the Middle East). So, you get a lot more than just your average law degree that's focused on the English Legal System alone. This gives you a real advantage after you graduate because your application will stand out due to the globalised understanding of the law that teaching at SOAS provides.

SOAS also has a smaller student cohort than other universities so you have more one-on-one support and really benefit from our close-knit community. It is easier to stand out when joining our very competitive societies like our Law Society, Debating Society and United Nations Society because there are fewer students but many opportunities. (Getting involved in these societies would look great on your CV by the way!)

But my favourite part is by far the SOAS Library! It is 1 of the 5 national research libraries in the UK with incredible resources and great study spots for exam season (this is student-verified).

Here is a blog from one of our alumni on how studying Law at SOAS has had a massive impact on her career: https://www.soas.ac.uk/about/blog/careers-studying-soas-had-massive-impact-my-career-lawyer-dubai.

I hope this helps, please let me know if you have any questions.

Happy holidays! 🙂
