A level choice

What a level would go well alongside Law and Photogtaphy?
I’m thinking about taking Business or Psycology? ( I’ve done GCSE Business so don’t want to just repeat!)

What career/sector do you think you might want to go into, and could you align a subject with this?

I knew I wanted to study Psychology at university, so chose Biology, Law, Psychology and Photography at A-Level (I chose photography as less-intense subject/something to break up the other 3!)

I'd go for Psychology personally.

Whilst Business Studies is different at A Level to GCSE, it's going to go into more detail on the same topics.

Just out of interest, which degree or professional qualification do you intend to do afterwards?

Hey @Bettine01 👋

Law and photography sound like great A-levels to pursue.

Are you planning on going to university and/or do you have any specific career goals? This will help to determine which other course would be best suited to you.

Based on your options of business and psychology - I would say business, but I am biased because I studied business management at university. If you let us know what pathway you'd like to pursue after your A-levels, we can give you more specific advice 😀

I am interested more in law at the moment but then would like to use photography somewhere too maybe?
I’m not 100% about going to uni. I think an apprenticeship after college would be something I’d be interested in???

So hard when you don’t know exactly what you want to do.

Hey 👋

Yeah, I completely understand - it can be difficult to choose the ‘right’ option when you’re so unsure of what career path you’d like to pursue, or what you’d like to do after finishing sixth form/college.

I was in your position when completing my a-levels - my key reason for choosing to study business studies at a-level and business management at university was because I wasn’t certain of the career I wanted to pursue. I felt that studying business allowed me to keep my options open as I could study various topics such as marketing, finance, economics, hr, etc which are big parts of any business. Business would be a good option if you are considering corporate law too.

Have a think and maybe reach out to those closest to you to get their opinion. Ultimately the decision is yours and should be based on your interests. Photography is a great choice because even if it isn’t used in your future career, it can become a life-time hobby that you can pursue indefinitely, with the right knowledge and skills.

Thanks for your thoughts everyone - it is helpful!

One more question

Is psychology ok to do without a science?

I think you should be fine to do psych without any other sciences, but biology does definitely help both in the a level classes and if you decide you want a career in psychology.

It's definitely not a necessity though.
