Worth applying to Oxbridge medicine?

Is it worth applying to Oxbridge if I have all 8/9 GCSE’ 4A* predicted but only slightly above average ucat (2720)

Yeah go for it, Oxford view 8s and 9s the same (or so they say) and they use 50% weighting on GCSEs to shortlist for an interview. Idk much about UCAT or whatnot (I’m still waiting for gcse results) but based of your gcse and a level predicted I’d say yes!

Hey @User1545454 👋

Yes it's definitely worth a try - if you never try, you'll never know!

Very impressive predicted grades, by the way - keep up the hard work and you should do superbly in your A-levels.

Hey, probably worth posting here: https://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/showthread.php?t=7312527
Seeing as the UCAT is new for Oxbridge I'm not sure how much info is out there about what UCAT score they're looking for, but bear in mind that historically they have always asked for near perfect stats, and there always will be plenty of other applicants with very high UCAT scores. I'm sure you know that medicine is highly competitive and Oxbridge would definitely be a risky option for anyone, but ultimately it's up to you if you're comfortable with spending one of 4 options on Oxbridge. Also bear in mind that all UK medical schools will give you the same degree and no medical school is 'better' than another, so best to go for medical schools where you a) have a decent chance of getting in and b) will vibe with the teaching style (the traditional Oxbridge course is definitely not everyone's cup of tea!). Hope this helps!

If your interview preparation us meticulous it might be at least as important as any aptitude tests. I coached two Oxbridge Medicine applicants last year and one is now at Cambridge and the other at Oxford. What impressed me was the way both approached each phase of application with massive dedication and diligence. If you do the same you'll be in with a shot.
