Uni Entry Requirements

I was just wondering what a good mix of uni entry requirements would be for university?
I'm taking Politics, Modern History and Law at A-Level.
I don't have UCAS predicted grades yet but my teachers have predicted A for Politics, A for History and A* for Law.
I know for definite I am applying to Cambridge (A*AA) and York (AAA) with York being my firm if I don't get an offer from Cambridge, but I'm unsure what sort of entry requirements I should be considering for other unis - should I look for some with requirements around BBC or aim for all around ABB?
Hope this makes sense!

Hi @chlo_01

There is no one way to go about this. When I applied, I applied for 3 courses which matched my predicted grades. I then applied for 1 which was one grade lower than my predicted grades and 1 which was 2 grades lower than my predicted. I felt confident that this would give me a strong chance of obtaining at least 2 offers. In the end, I obtained 4 so it worked in that sense.

I know some people just go for their predicted grades and you may be confident enough to do that. What I would bear in mind, is there is no point applying for somewhere you don't want to go. Therefore, if no "Safety net" options actually interest you, I wouldn't bother choosing them.

I hope this helps!

Hi @chlo_01

It's probably best if some of the unis you apply to have lower entry grade requirements. There is no exact combination that you should go for, but I'd make sure there is a buffer there in the event that you don't get the grades you were hoping for. All being well, you'll ace your exams and will meet your firm choice requirements! But, if your firm is AAA, I would at least have an option in your top 5 unis that has lower grades of ABB, but if you like some other unis with BBC or other possibly lower requirements, I wouldn't worry, as it's good to have some options.

Hope this helps. 🙂

The usual advice is :

1 or 2 choices just above your predicted grades - 1 grade and not in a vital subject.

2 or 3 choices at your predicted grades - these are your most likely offers

At least 1 that is a couple of grades below your predicted grades - this is your obvious Insurance, and especially if you start getting less confident about those A grades mid-Year 13.
