About my essay

For one module I did a presentation and for that I got 76 % and for the other part which was written I got capped at 40% have I passed the module in that case
Impossible to answer without knowing the weightings. Thus if the presentation is weighted at 30% and the essay at 70% then your final mark is 22.8 (30% of 76)+ 28 (70% of 40)= 50.8.

Yes you have passed the module.

If you have received a 76% for the presentation, I'd be very curious to know why you need to redo your written component.

The fact that the written component was capped at 40% means you have only been awarded a pass even if you got a higher grade.

40% is typically the pass mark for undergrad modules in most subjects.

So because they will cap my essay at 40 will I add the 76 and 40 together which will give me 116 divide by 2 equals to 58 so my overall score is 58

Both work are weighted at 50% so 50% for presentation and 50% for essay

Not sure if you're the OP. However, it's like @mike23mike has said, unless we know the weighting for each assignment in the module, it's difficult to say.

If the presentation and essay are equally weighted, then yes, you can add them together and divide by 2. If they are equally weighted, then no.
For both the weight is 50 % so yes
