Online uni psychology undegraduate

I'm applying to online uni for this coming September/ October does anyone recommend any in particular? I've been looking into University of Essex, Arden university, University of Derby, University of London and Open university
I would like to study a psychology undegraduate degree, I got 112 UCAS points, I'm wandering which is the most hands on and interactive, so will be easiest to stay motivated and interested with.
Hey 🙂 Just want to check, is there a specific reason you are looking at a online psychology degree? These are a lot less 'hands on and interactive' so it feels an odd choice. The only one of those I can comment on it Essex uni, I know someone who did Psych there and loved it but there were on campus, not online.

For religious reasons, I don't want to be on campus. It's a hard decision but I decided it's best for me

My theory is I really thrived with the online learning over lockdown in year 9 and 10 so I should be ok, as long as I set myself up a structure and rourine.... And I'll get a part time job or something alongside it

That's fair enough! 🙂 It's a hard one to comment on as none of them will be hands on, the only interactivity your have is how engaging lectures make the sessions. You could always ask the uni's if you can speak to someone about the course and gauge how well you think you'd fit in with them.

No worries, I would also ask them if there is a chance to visit campus at any point, even if it's to tale part in other people's research as if you want to work in psychology it's important to have the experience of how it works in person as well 🙂 Best of luck with your application and studies, and you know where we all are if you need any help 🙂

I want to work as a children's art therapist, so will have to still do a masters which i will probably go on campus for. In a way maybe I'll have more spare time to get work experience by not studying on campus. Idk what to expect though, no one in my immediate family has gone to university, so I don't know a lot about studying, although I have a grind studying online that started last year. I guess I'll see...

I have been wondering the same thing. I got a place at UoL to study Psychology, but think an online course would suit me more. I’ve applied for Derby and I’m trying to make a decision!

Lmk what you end up doing.... Would love to hear how this works out for you. Have you researched the different university's? Which do you think are best?

Derby looks good, it has so much choice for optional modules. I did a bit of research on Essex, but noticed it was 4 years long. I think I’ll end up attending a physical university in the UK despite living abroad at the moment. It’s scary but I think it’s too good to turn down.

Good luck with the decision!

I am the student ambassador for Arden University so naturally I'm going to do a sales pitch. For an unbiased view, you can check out a Universities score on the Teaching Excellence Framework which should be readily available online. In terms of Arden they are fully accredited with the British Psychological Society and are specialists in online learning, with the option to do 100% of the course online (blended learning options are also available at centres in Manchester, London, Birmingham, and Leeds etc).

Their virtual learning environment with access to academic journals is the best I have seen (and I have worked in education myself for 10 years plus), and student support was useful and pretty quick ( this was at the height of the Covid pandemic too )

With whichever provider you choose, I wish you the best of luck

That's such an interesting area to get into and would make a really interesting read for your dissertation when you get there 🙂

Have you had a look at any postgraduate courses yet? As long as your degree is BPS accreditated your have a lot more freedom to explore other options for your master's. If it isn't BPS accredited your need to do a top up year after your degree 🙂

Thank you so much!
i study my degree with open uni and it’s pretty good. Not hands on because in level 1 because it’s mostly reading study books and learning online work and then essays and tutorials with tutors. It is great and you can easily connect with other open uni students
