Optometry advice needed!

So I’m writing this about someone else. I need to know what the next step is…

They went to university for masters optometry and got withdrawn due to failing every module.

Before anyone says they shouldn’t try again and should find something else.. it’s not due to their academic capabilities it was because they didn’t go to a single lecture and didn’t prioritise their work and yes… they regret it and know it was dumb.

Anyways, clearing was today and they had phoned about it but was told that because they have already studied optom for a year it is highly unlikely they could do optom in the future because they would base it off of their highest degree of study which was the one they had failed.

They have worked so unbelievably hard for this their whole life and have gotten some of the top grades the country. And I refuse to believe that there is nothing they could possibly due to get back in it next year…

Please let me know your advice and or who to speak too as we are truly stuck

Can I try to establish exactly what qualifications they hold and what they want to study?

Is it a masters in Optometry as in a postgraduate course where they already have an undergraduate degree under their belt?
Or is this an integrated masters where the highest qualifications they haven't failed are A Levels (or equiv)?

All gcse and A levels and they want to study Moptom

Integrated yes, it was a 4 year course I believe

Can I ask what "failing every module" means exactly?

University modules?

You haven't told me what qualifications this person holds, you've just said "all GCSE and A Levels", I'm still struggling to understand at exactly what point in their education is this person.

Hi

So majority of universities will not accept him onto their MOptom courses. The only universities that will consider this is UWE Bristol and Teesside University. He can also apply as an RPL applicant at Teesside where he can also map any modules he did achieve credits for and be exempt from that module at Teesside but they need to fulfil their learning outcomes 🙂
