History at Lancaster University

Hi everyone,
I have a clearing offer for history at Lancaster university which I'm considering taking up or I might reapply next year. I was wondering if anyone could tell me about the course or just general feedback about what the university is like as I've not been able to visit. I know it's a college campus but is it very isolated as it's away from the city centre? I'm also pretty clueless about the college system and which college is best to choose, so I'd appreciate any advice in that avenue as well.
Hi there!

First off, congratulations on your offer!

I am a business student so I can't say much about the history course but for more specific information you can check out the website!

When it comes to Lancaster in general, the university is about a 15 minute bus ride to the city centre. It is super easy to travel to the city from campus, so much so that most 2nd and 3rd years, including myself, will chose to live in the city itself. Lancaster is about an hour train ride to both Manchester and the Lake District and lots of students will go to those cities on weekend trips. The city is also about 20 minutes away on bus to Morecambe which is a cute seaside town. The city itself is on the smaller side but has lots of restaurants, cafes, and pubs. It also has many events throughout the year that everyone is free to attend such as a music festival, a literature festival, light shows, etc.

The university itself is a campus university with lots of green space for you to hang out with friends (including a woodland walk around campus), many food outlets, and lots of places to chill out or study. We have over 170 societies that you can join, we also host the Roses Competition (the largest inter-university sport competition in Europe!) every year along with York University.

The collegiate system at Lancaster works in that we have eight undergraduate colleges and one postgraduate college. Everyone who goes to Lancaster (including staff) has a college, during your first year that college is where you live. Each college hosts their own events (such as a winterball, sport events, etc), has their own allocated bar, has welfare support, and a student run committee, as well as different sports teams such as football and netball. However, whichever college you are in you are always more than welcome to go to other colleges common spaces, events, or bars. I recommend taking a look at this websites to get a better understanding! If you confirm your spot for Lancaster you will get an application to fill out regarding accommodation and this is where you also apply for which college you want to be a part of.
