Is royal holloway diverse?

Hey guys I'm from an asian, low income, ethnic minority background and i will be living on campus at royal holloway. I’ve heard that this uni is full of rich posh English kids which is giving me anxiety as i do mot want to be the black sheep.

Hi! I'm going to royal holloway in September too and I'm a bit worried as well. I understand I won't feel the same as you as I'm white and British, but I'm so scared that it'll be filled with extremely posh people. I've had a look at the societies and I've seen that it is quite diverse!!

And if you need anyone to talk to who's going to RH, don't be afraid to get in touch!

Hi there,

Thanks for your message. You can chat to some of our current students using Unibuddy here https://www.royalholloway.ac.uk/chat/ and ask them any questions about life on campus, the community, societies to get involved with as well as anything else you’d like to know about studying at Royal Holloway.

Let us know If you need help with anything else and we look forward to welcoming you soon!

Best wishes,

Royal Holloway, University of London
Hiya,

Just wanted to chip in that - while I don't know the exact percentage - a sizeable percentage of the Royal Holloway student body are global majority students (global majority is another term for ethnic minority students, or BAME students). I know this because I was on a call the other day where - as an icebreaker question - I was asked what percentage of students at RHUL I thought were global majority. I answered 30% and was told it was higher than that! :yep:

Some departments are probably more diverse than others. As a poor British South Asian student (albeit a postgrad student living off campus, rather than undergrad living on campus), I've never experienced race-related problems at Royal Holloway :nah:

Unis fall into two categories:

Majority middle class, but still diverse

The same proportion as type 1 for 50% of the population. The other 50% is Chinese.

You'll be fine mate
