Gap year or Pharmacology

I got 3 Cs for my A levels in biology, chemistry and maths. I originally planned to go to the University of Manchester or Liverpool John Moore for pharmacy. Through clearing, I got a place at Keele University for pharmacology with a master's integrated, which I realised is what I preferred. Some people have advised me to take a gap year and redo my A levels to get better grades and apply for a better university. I really can't decide what to do. What would be the best option for me ?

Hey @Smith17 👋

Congratulations on obtaining 3 Cs - you should be super proud of yourself!

Whilst it's important to listen to the opinion of those around you, ultimately you have to think about what you would like to do.

It's great that you got a place with Keele through clearing - you seem to be really interested in the course offered there. Have you done some additional research to see if the university is a good fit for you? i.e have you looked into the specific modules, accommodation, clubs/societies, student support, careers support, etc? As these may impact your decision.

Try not to rush into any decision. If you are really unsure about what you would like to do and think you could do better in your A-levels the second time around, then go for it - take a gap year and resit, however if you feel ready to join university now, are genuinely interested in Keele & could do without the stress of re-doing your exams, go for Keele!

Is there a certain time you have to confirm your place at Keele by?

The course at Keele will be very much geared towards 'working in a lab' - if that what you want, go for it.
Pharmacol graduates will always be in demand. If the course has any inbuilt work experience / placements, even better.

If you want to get into drug synthesis then the pharmacology course at Keele is ideal for you. A pharmacy degree would mean you can legally dispense drugs but not prepare you for research into drug design whilst a pharmacology degree will do that. Keele is a good uni.

Can you not transfer to pharmacy at keele if you meet certain requirements?
