Student finance/ £5000 grant Nurse

Hi, I will be studying a degree in nursing in september however I will need student finance but because of you study a nursing degree then you can get a £5000 grant and I was wondering how I go about that would that mean less tuition fees. I’m a bit confused all together. Also because I applied a bit late would it still be okay. Also with the 9,250 how will I be paying it back I know it’s 9% however does that mean I pay the 27,000+ when done or sorry I’m confused

The annual training grant is paid from the NHS Learning Support Fund (NHS LSF) and does not affect how much maintenance loan you get. Once you know that you are eligible for student finance, you can apply to the NHS LSF for the grant. They also pay additional travel and accommodation expenses that you might incur during placements.

You should be eligible for both the tuition fee loan and the maintenance loan from student finance. The tuition fee loan is paid directly to the university to pay your course fees. The maintenance loan is paid to your bank account in three instalments - usually at the start of each term. You start to repay these loans from the April after you graduate. You will repay 9% of anything you earn above £25,000 per year. These repayments will continue for 40 years or until the outstanding balance is paid off, whichever comes first. Hi, thank you so much. What would the £5000 be for in that case?
Also If I had applied late and it doesn’t come to the university in time is that a problem because of the fact that I had to go through clearing and the courses start soon so it will obviously take long for the finance to be accepted if that make sense?
Many thanks

The training grant is an incentive to attract students to degree courses that will result in them working in the NHS. Also, often healthcare courses have placements during normal uni holidays so the grant helps support them through that when your maintenance loan might be running low.

If you keep your uni informed of the status of your student finance application once you start uni, it will be fine. Unis will be aware that it might take a liitle longer for last-minute students. The NHS LSF training grant is paid much later in the term as you and your course leader have to confirm your attendance on the course. I think the first payment is late November.

I think it is possible but you will have to contact the NHS LSF directly and ask what information/evidence is required:
