How do Foundation year law degrees work?

Do they guarantee you a place on the actual degree?
Are they free?
Do Russell Group or Oxbridge unis provide them?
Can I apply for one in clearing?
Can I get in with BBB A-level grades (Law, Politics, English Language)?
Can you get on one if your education has been normal but your family income is less than £25,000 and your parents receive Universal Credit?
Are they looked down upon?

Would it be seen as mean to apply for one in a prestigious university if I had no problems with care/family issues/learning difficulties/etc but got in because of the finance side of things?

Hello!

If you take an integrated LLB Law course with a foundation year, yes, your place is guaranteed. You complete your foundation year and then progress straight onto years 1, 2 and 3 of the degree.

Fees for the courses will be listed on the individual university websites. If you're a UK student you can apply for Student Finance to fund your studies.

Spaces are available in Clearing! Here at Roehampton we have spaces on the following Law courses with foundation years:
https://www.roehampton.ac.uk/study/undergraduate-courses/law/
https://www.roehampton.ac.uk/study/undergraduate-courses/law-and-criminal-justice/
https://www.roehampton.ac.uk/study/undergraduate-courses/llb-law-with-politics/

If you contact our Clearing hotline they will be able to let you know if you're eligible for an offer - 0300 303 8320. Other universities will be able to do the same, so contact the places you are keen to study at and see what's available to you.

Thanks,

Katie - Roehampton

Hi! I've looked into it a bit more. Should I try getting jnto a RG uni with a foundation year, or accept a clearing offer to Chester?

It's up to you really!

Clearing remains open until October for Universities that still have places, so you have some time to call and see what offers are available to you.

You can then make the decision on if you want to study for 3 year or 4, depending on the uni.

Thanks,
