Confused about clearing (York St John)

Hi guys. I rang York St John today through clearing, I was 8 UCAS points below what I needed for the course but I mentioned that I’d usually be eligible for a contextual offer, and I’m getting one of my exams remarked which should give me 16 more UCAS points if it goes up. They said they could offer me a place - but I’m confused at how secure the offers over the phone actually are?
I haven’t submitted an application via UCAS, my teacher rang them and they said that I didn’t need to but I’m confused about how this works. They’ve emailed me asking for my scripts and I’ve sent them over of course. I’m going to ring them back up in the morning especially because I’m worried about accommodation too, and I can’t understand if I actually have a place or not but this is probably just me doubting.

So you don't have a UCAS application for this year at all right now? Or you don't have a confirmed place on UCAS?

Right in that case I would definitely be wanting something in writing from them. It sounds like you are in a good position since they have asked for your scripts etc. however without a UCAS application then you have nothing in writing to confirm it and you are circumventing the standard process (which is possible, but unusual).
Phone them up tomorrow and see if they will send you email confirmation of your place for your peace of mind

Hey, idk if this is relevant to your situation, but I fell 8 UCAS points under my offer and was advised by a careers team at school to do a first aid at work course, certified by TQUK, as that’ll give you 8 points. It’s usually a one day course and you get your certificate and points within 3-5 working days

Most unis insist that your UCAS points are gained by 3 A levels only so unfortunately this won't work for most people :frown:
Sometimes relevant qualifications can count (eg. music grades for music) but in general it's only A levels
Good to hear it worked out for you though!

Hi,
Most universities will only accept level 3 qualifications (e.g. A levels, Btech's, T levels, access courses ). I would recommend that you see if the university you are interested in accepts this qualification.

I have left these links below for you that explains more about UCAS points and entry requirements.
