Hi, I just finished my nursing degree, I would definitely recommend that you familiarise yourself with the NMC code of conduct that will help you a lot in assignments and essays and your decision making when you are out in your placement.
BNF is great for medication administration
NICCE guidelines another useful website about when you are unsure about how/why you would carry out a task in a certain way.
I used to watch Nurse Zara on YouTube and follow her on her socials she’s really good, doesn’t make things sound complicated and she uses very simple terminology so you can understand stuff.
Hope this is helpful.
Thank you

For safeguarding purposes, it's against TSR rules to share social media details on the forum. It's best to keep you questions on this thread, as it will help others who are looking for similar help.

Hi,

I'm due to finish in 4 weeks!

I found geeky medics and simple nursing on YouTube helpful. Also on YouTube, you can find songs about the systems of the body which helps remembering much easier.

You can also find personalised packages on etsy for documenting and revision in nursing. These include things like medication books to document medications, lanyard sized information cards about sepsis, blood values etc and pocket handbooks for practice placements.

Good luck with your training 🙂

1.

When it comes to assessments your whole module will be around the assessment, so when you do get an assessment always do the most simple thing give a definition. Use a range of resources so journals/ articles/ studies. Good scholar will give you a good range of journals/articles. Once you are at university use the library it will really benefit you because it’s good to use books in assessments it shows you can use a wide range of resources and not only online resources.

2.

There will be a range of assessments from 3500 word assessments/essays to 1000 word essays always remember don’t go over the word count as you can loose marks so plan before in advance. In my first year there was 2 essay questions and they started with “reflect” make sure you know what a reflection is and know how to write one. The other being “critically” so definitely know what critic is so bring in others point of view in, so example one person says this about insulin doses another says this, then you state which is more accurate to you finding and why but you can also say that study is not accurate to my findings.

3.

Everyone has there own way of preparing so I would definitely recommend you find what your own style is so what works for you it could be writing it all down then typing it up, just a few notes, or just giving yourself titles and then writing. Mine was definitely doing each section by itself writing it down then getting rid of what I do need or don’t. Websites - NMC code of conduct Is going to be your first choice in my opinion because there is literally everything THERE. In your essays they will say bring in guidelines so your most relevant ones NICCE, NHS UK, HOSPITAL TRUSTS . Just do the most simple google search of what you want to know and something will come up because remember when writing you essays you need to think that the person reading has some knowledge about whatever you are writing about. Don’t over complicate it because when you do you always then get into talking about the simple things to much. Another important one is don’t make all your essay/assignment descriptive bring in references bring in other sources that will boost your marks.

4.

You have made it to the stage of universality you most definitely know what revision techniques works for you. I would say before you do a question just read about the topic yourself familiarise yourself with definitions. When it comes to assignments I would go back to the PowerPoint slides from lectures and read the question to myself loads of times, pick the words out which are important eg, reflect, analyse, critique. You will have practical exams im not 100% sure but go to the practical sessions the university will hold, so i had a A-E practical I just simply before going to the practice practical reminded myself what an A-E assessment . They will definitely give you an example of a past essay so I used to work against that to make sure that I cover everything.

5.

I used to watch Nurse Zara, Geeky medics is good, The nursing nerd she has a few videos on clinical stuff. I had one for reference which I used a lot it was Cite it for me and My bib because you will have to reference you work but find out first what type of reference style your university use.

6.

Right I know it is going hard you are doing a university degree, you will have weeks of placement don’t be shy to speak if you don’t know simple things I’ll give you an example I forgot how to make a bed in my second year placement because I had never done one before remember you are there to learn you are there to get your degree it is better you ask if you are unsure because if not it could cause your safety or patients safety at risk. ENJOY YOUR DEGREE, go out with your friends and family do stuff you like to do because that will make you feel better. If you have any issues at university with assignments or anything contact the module leader your personal academic tutor the programme team use the services university provide. Remember you will not know everything so don’t be hard on yourself, enjoy university make friends go to the events that university hold and remember if you don’t get the results you want you will always get a second attempt.

I hope that was helpful I know there is a lot to take in, if you have any more questions feel free to ask me.
Thanks
