My course is Accounting and Finance so wondering if any other muslim girls will also be doing the same course even if you aren’t id love to be friends . I’m nervous about being the only hijabi in my course as i’m aware that Lancaster is a predominantly white area

Hi! I totally understand how you feel about being in the minority, especially when starting a new course. But try not to worry too much. From what I've seen, Lancaster has a really inclusive community where everyone is welcomed, regardless of your religion or whether you're the only hijabi in your course.
If you don’t find other Muslim girls in your course, you can always connect with others through the Lancaster Uni Islamic Society. They’re very active and organize events like open iftar during Ramadan, where they invite students of all religions to join. You can check out their Instagram page to see what they’ve been up to and get more information. https://www.instagram.com/lancsisoc?utm_source=ig_web_button_share_sheet&igsh=ZDNlZDc0MzIxNw==
Remember, you’re not alone, and there are plenty of ways to find friends and feel at home.

Hello, there is no need to be nervous. Lancaster University has a very diverse community with staff and students from all over the world and of different faiths. We have a multi-faith centre on campus and dedicated Muslim prayer rooms for brothers and sisters. There is an Islamic Society group you can join, but you will make friends with people from all backgrounds here. Lancaster University has a reputation for being friendly so don't feel nervous, feel excited. We look forward to seeing you in the autumn. Usha Lancaster University staff member
