UCAS clearing

Hi I have been accepted into my course. However im not happy with the course and want to apply for another one through clearing. Can I first call unis to make sure I get in or do I have to decline my uni offer straightaway?? Because I don’t want to take the risk of an entire gap year.
Please advise!!!
Can you give more detail.

Does your firm choice offer the course you want to switch to?

Is this a sudden switch in interests or something you’ve been thinking about for a while?

Yes you can. If you have the grades for your firm choice uni but now want to study a different subject then you can call unis and ask if your grades are good enough to be accepted for a different degree. If your grades are good enough you will get a verbal offer followed by a written offer.

You then need to go into UCAS and reject your existing place at your firm choice uni (no need to call them). You can then formally accept the alternative offer.

Its normal for individuals to have a 'change of heart' and decide to study something else at a different uni

Hello 👋

Did you manage to speak to universities about this yesterday? I hope you enjoy the course you've decided to study and good luck with your university experience! If you need any advice about university life just let us know 🙂

The university I have been accepted and enrolled into is offering a different course that I am more interested in, that is still available on clearing.

I checked on the ucas historical data and entered my grades, and it shows that 100% of students with my grades have been previously accepted in the past.

My problem is that if I decline my current enrolled offer, and if I don’t get into the clearing offer, then I loose my position and potentially have to wait one more year.

Should I call them and ask them about it? It’s the same course that I had applied to previously but I had been rejected due to having a gcse grade 1 lower than required. As a result they gave me a different course which I was happy with but i am not as much. Since they are clearly still on clearing would I even have a chance?

Hey @welcoming-harm 👋

Yes it's important for you to not decline your current offer until you have received a verbal offer from another university or for a different course. If you decline your offer, this will be irreversible.

If the university gave you a different course in the past due to falling short of the GCSE requirements, they may not be able to offer you a place on the course you originally applied for. However, entry requirements can sometimes be more flexible during the clearing period, so it's definitely worth a try contacting the university and seeing if you could get a place on the original course.

Alternatively, you could contact other universities offering the course you're most interested in.

Hope this helps.

important question: what do you mean when you say you have "enrolled" onto a course?

If you just want to swap course at your firm then calling them up and asking the process is the first step. There's no need to use clearing to swap courses. And if you have enrolled then it would cause all sorts of problems if you tried to use clearing.
