1 mark off a C, review of marking?

hii got my a level results yesterday and i am one mark off a C for religious studies. i'm not sure if i want to request a review of marking or not and need some advice on it. how likely will i gain one mark?

i spoke to my teacher on this yesterday and they said that i could get awarded a couple more marks on my ethics paper. just wondering if anyone has had a review of marking before and what was their experience of it? just not sure if it is worth paying 40 quid for

Hi,
Although I didn't end of getting a review of my paper, I was looking into it for GCSEs. My teacher advised me to look at the paper first to see whether she though it would be worth it. So she looked into it and marked it blindly, to see whether she thought the mark would possibly go up. Now, I decided not to get it remarked, because although she said it could have gone up, I didn't need the specific grade for anything, so just thought it wasn't worth the hassle, if that makes sense.

Although, your circumstances might be different, and you might require the C to get into your university? The only worry I would have with RS, is that the grade boundaries are usually quite tight. I remember this from when I studied my A level, as did the same course. Therefore, I would advise that you check how far you are from the grade boundary below, so there is no risk of a lower grade. I think for one mark it would be worth it, and like your teacher said, a different examiner could find extra marks somewhere within the paper.

My final advise would be that it really depends on your situation, because you are right that £40 is a lot of money. I would take a day maybe to think about it, and decide whether it is something you really want/need, and if that is the case, then go for it. Your teacher's advise is also extremely important, as they can look at the paper and decide whether they feel it would be worthy of the C grade, which should help to make your decision.

Good luck in whatever you decide to do.

Hope this helps

On one of my GCSEs I was 1 raw mark off an A* (this was in the modular “UMS” days so after 3 papers to end up 1 singular raw mark was about as tight as you can cut it), I got it reviewed and my grade stayed exactly 1 raw mark off an A*.

I don’t really regret doing it, but even if I had got my grade slightly increased in all honesty it would make zero difference to where I am now.

A-levels do potentially sit on your CV for applying for internships, trying to define “is it worth it” , if you need the grade to do what you want to do next then well it probably is worth it. Is it worth the money for potentially slightly improved CV (this depends if you intend to keep A-level scores on your CV & if you think employers will value it) by the time I left university I had already removed high school academics from my CV.
