resit vs foundation year

My grades are very bad (DCD).I got offer for with foundation year(4 year G40F).
I am not sure what is best option.
What are advantages of resit?
I never heard of the foundation year before so bit confused. What are the prospects like with foundation year?

If its the course you know you will enjoy l, foundation year is worth it.
Foundation year is just another year which allows you to progress on to the course easily. But in the end when you apply for jobs (if thats what you are referring to) it has no effects on it cause essentially you have done the entire degree but with just another year.
However, if its not the course you want to do, and you think resitting will get you the grades you want, it is a good idea even though it can be very tiring doing another year of studying alevels.
Good luck with what you decide x

I took a foundation year instead of A levels, it wasn't stressful at all and is probably a kinder pathway into uni. If the foundation course is on campus you get to experience student life there before accepting ur uni offer a year later, so u can better decide if its the uni for you or not. Its better to retake A levels if you're not fully sure of the course you want though!

Hey there @bleak-tattoo I hope that you are well!

I would firstly like to say I am sorry to hear that you are not satisfied with your results and I greatly hope that after this, all goes well for you.

I am unable to comment on doing resits but I can for the foundation year. I have a friend who is planning on doing one and it can be a very valuable experience in getting your experience in for the desired course; especially if you don't already have any experience. I hope this helps!

Foundation year courses are designed to increase academic skills and give students a broad understanding (a 'foundation') of the subject area, as well as building confidence ahead of starting a three year undergraduate degree. So basically, it's a gateway to your degree without having to resit your A Levels.

Even though your grades are perhaps not what you expected, you still have options! What course are you looking to study?

thank you all for all valuable suggestions.
Has anyone know what is pass criteria in foundation year to the university?
If i decided to go different uni after foundation year then what is the process? Do i need to go through the UCAS?
HI @bleak-tattoo

Like the other advice you have recieved, I would definitely say looking at a foundation year could be beneficial. It helps to bridge the gap between A levels and Bachelor but you would be at your chosen university and be on the course you would like to study.

In most cases if you complete your foundation year successfully then you progress straight on to the master's degree, it might just be worth checking the course entry requirements to see if they have any course-specific requirements to them. If you decide after the foundation year to change Unis then you can be a transferring student, and most unis have an academic advice service in their student union that would be able to guide and support you through the whole process - so that's worth checking out!

I hope this helps!

Hi there!

I am sorry that you didn't get the grades you expected but you have nothing to worry about! I haven't done any resits so I can't comment on those however I did a foundation course.

It really helped me to start building the foundations of my degree and figure myself out. It allowed me to start managing my time better and get a flavour of what my degree would entail. Gain those academic skills. In terms of the marking criteria you might be best to check the course requirements or get in touch with the university. However, if you want to swap unis after the foundation year you can do so being a transferring student. 😊

Hope this helps and you make the right decision for you!
