Glasgow vs Lancaster - PLEASE HELP.

Hi,
I have clearing offers (Lancaster - Economics and Uni of Glasgow - Maths and Economics).

I am a student from UK who likes to study Economics and I prefer Glasgow since it has more reputation and liked it rather than Lancaster.

Cons - I will need to study for 4 years rather than 3 years.

Can you please help me?

Hi,
Congratulations on the clearing offers, you should be really pleased with yourself!
My advice would be to choose the university that you prefer, as opposed to looking at league tables etc. As I know that Lancaster isn’t a Russell group uni, for example, but is still highly regarded as a good uni by students and employers.
Look at both the modules that the universities offer as these might differ, and one might have something that you prefer. Especially because the courses are different, so will definitely have different focuses; for example, would you prefer the maths side, or the purely economics degree?
Also look at the university in itself; do you like the campus, the atmosphere it seems to create and could you see yourself living there for 3 years. It is probably difficult to travel to them, but looking on websites, social media etc can give you a good insight.
Also look at societies, that you might want to join, as this is another big part of your uni experience, that might differ in different universities.

I think having to study for 4 years shouldn’t put you off, as if it is a place that you love, you will want to stay that extra year anyway!
Hope this all helps but happy to answer any more questions!
Good luck,
Katie (Lancaster University Student Ambassador)

Hey @ushadevi 👋

Congratulations on gaining two clearing offers.

If you prefer the University of Glasgow, I would opt for this university - especially if your only con is that you will be studying 4 years rather than 3. Whilst you may prefer to complete your degree in 3 years, having that extra year is likely to grant you even more knowledge in the field of Economics, and so it could actually be beneficial in the long run.

Check out this guide I put together which highlights the factors that you should consider when thinking about which university is right for you - https://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/showthread.php?t=7511075

Best of luck in making your decision. I'm sure you'll choose the right one for you! 😀
