Hi! Congrats!! I just graduated this summer with an English degree from York. So out of the books you actually only end up writing an essay about 2 of them per term and you get to choose, so I’d recommend prioritising the books you know you’d definitely want to write an essay about because you like a specific theme/author. Honestly don’t worry too badly about it, if you’re struggling with the workload a quick google of the plot/key themes will get you through a seminar and the tutors are really understanding that you may not have done a lot of analysis when deadlines are due.

Also my main advice for the course is don’t buy any of the books brand new - you can get them for £2-£3 on Vinted and Ebay and you’ll honestly save hundreds over the 3 years 😂. You can also rent them from the library for free physically and view them digitally.

Feel free to let me know if you have any other questions!

hello 🙂 the other reply is so much more informative than this one will be but if you want to be reassured, im also studying english at york this sept and i'm only 75% of the way through Roxana (one of the module 1 books) and have skimmed sections of the bigger analysis book. it seems like it's not entirely essential to read every single page of every book but rather gain a general understanding of themes and ideas and also read a couple. i'm kinda going in blind but that's what feels right.
