Should i take a gap year?

Hi, I just got my A level results and I got AAA but I don't know if these grades are enough as most people with A* AA get in. Please help me decide if I should take a gap year and what universities would accept me.

Hey @Eunwoobbb 👋

Wow, congratulations on your A-level grades - you have done great!

Which course and university are you thinking of studying? With those grades, I'm sure there will be plenty of options available.

However, if you'd rather take your time to gather your thoughts and determine which university is right for you, there's no harm in taking a gap year - the last thing you want to do is rush into a decision!

Hi @Eunwoobbb

Congratulations on your results! I hope you celebrated well 😀

Are there any particular universities you wanted to apply to? It might be worth looking at their website for what the entry requirements would be for your chosen course, as different courses have different entry requirements. It's a great idea to also look at what AAA translates to in UCAS tariff points (https://www.ucas.com/undergraduate/applying-university/entry-requirements/calculate-your-ucas-tariff-points) as you can use this as a guide on the UCAS website for what universities are looking for.

Deciding whether to take time off from full time education is a very personal choice that only you can decide. I would recommend thinking about whether you're ready to go to university yet, or if there are other opportunities i.e. working or traveling that you would rather pursue right now.

Hi @Eunwoobbb !

Congratulations on your incredible A Level results! Everyone is different when it comes to deciding whether to take a gap year or go straight to university. Both options are beneficial- I went straight to university as I wasn't quite sure what I would want to do on a gap year. However, I know quite a few people who have taken gap years which was the perfect decision for them. Gap years are the perfect opportunity to go travelling and work on becoming more independent and growing in confidence. Some people also use there gap years as a way to save up for their time at university as well. Also, don't put yourself off doing a gap year if you're worried about being older than other first years, you will meet fellow gap year students and have some great stories/experience to share with all the new uni friends you meet.

Make the decision that feels right for you- either way there's no pressure to go straight to uni if you feel like you need a bit of a break from studies.

Hi @Eunwoobbb!

Congratulations on your results, well done! I think you have two great options. I think a gap year is a great thing to experience if it is the right thing for you. If you are unsure what university to go to then taking a gap year to think about universities, research them and just explore your options might be the right thing to do. It is your decision at the end of the day and only you know what is truly best for you!

Your grades are great and I am sure you will decide on the best thing for you!

Hope this helps 😊

Hi @Eunwoobbb

Well done on you fantastic grades! No doubt you worked very hard and I hope you celebrated and did something you really enjoyed.

As mentioned before a gap year can be great to recharge, have some new and exciting experiences and also give you time to look into the course you would like to study and where you would like to do that. Sometimes having a gap year can be the extra time you need to decide the course and location for you. I am sure with AAA you will have no problem getting onto a course it is just the question when and where and that is up to you.

There is no right or wrong answer, but maybe speaking to family or friends might help alongside making a plan of what you would like to do on your gap year - if you took it.

Well done again on all your hard work and let usknow what you decided!

Good luck and best wishes
