WHAT TO DO alevel results

so basically, i was predicted two a stars and an A bio chem maths. i was consistently doing well but at the end my mental health deteriorated so unfortunately i ended up getting a BBD. im wondering if i was to resit and apply to medicine at a few specific universities would i still have a chance
Many Thanks,
Hey there,

You would likely need some medical evidence to support the mental health aspect.
It will depend on the individual medical school, some have a blanket ban on resits

Some med schools don’t accept any resits entirely whereas some require certain grades to be achieved in the first sitting e.g ABB or BBB. There will be some that accept resits no matter the grades achieved but can’t think of any off the top of my head, maybe if you have evidence of extenuating circumstances (mental health), then some unis will be more lenient.
Hi, Writing as a parent & who works in the NHS....feel for you but dont lose sight of what you did achieve... still lots to play for in the future. What is the perspective of your 6th form head on your circumstances? How set are you on Medicine, as the NHS is very keen on promoting a whole host of other clinical professions and will be growing over the next few years? Check out healthcareers.nhs.uk

Hey @Araiba786 👋

I'm truly sorry to hear about your circumstance.

I just want to say that you should be really proud of yourself - obtaining BBD in your A-levels whilst facing problems with your mental health is a huge achievement!

I understand how disheartening it can be to receive lower grades than you expected. May I ask, how are you feeling now? Are you in a better place? If so, I would recommend resitting your year if you truly believe that you can do better this time around. However, if you think that this would flair up problems with your mental health, why not look into other universities that may offer lower entry requirements.

Whilst it may feel like it's the end of the world right now, try to remain mindful that there are still so many opportunities available. You are more than your grades, and have a bright future ahead!

Hi there,

If you did not achieve
the grades required to study medicine, we have our Foundation Entry Medical Sciences course
available for UK students as an alternative. Whilst this is not a guaranteed progression route, it would
allow application to our MBBS course and if successful, your offer would be conditional meeting
certain academic requirements from your foundation year rather than your a-levels. This would
negate the need to resit any a-levels and is a possible alternative route into medicine at UCLan.

Hey, you need to pick between either doing grad med or resitting and reapplying.
With resitting I’d advise you read through this and visit the unis individual pages to see their resit policies. Some unis are strict about what you first achieved in alevels before your resit whilst some aren't. Best for you to pick what benefits you most:

https://www.themedicportal.com/application-guide/choosing-a-medical-school/medical-school-a-level-resit-policies/

With doing grad med, some unis have certain degrees which make you more likely to get in and would help you if you decide this route such as

Good luck! Hope everything goes well for you
