Hey @Ashwinii 👋

What is your predicted grade in maths?

Having obtained a B already, I think you would certainly have a chance to up this to an A next year.

Do you need an A in order to be accepted in the university that you're thinking of? If not, try not to put too much pressure on yourself - B is still a great result!

You've got this!

Heyy @WrexhamUniReps

Sorry for the late reply.

I haven't gotten a predicted grade just yet because I only started school yesterday, and I'm not exactly sure when I'll be getting it, but I'm hoping I do get predicted an A.

For universities, most of them do want an A in Mathematics by the end of the year because my course is Accounting and Finance, which is why I'm stressing about being able to improve my grades to an A in Maths and still keeping my grades high in other subjects that I'm doing.

Also wanted to ask would 3 A-levels and a Btec Level 3 be too much to handle in year 13 with university application deadlines coming through?

Thank you for your help.

Hi 👋,

I think being able to handle 3 A levels and a BTEC is down to personal choice really as it will depend from person to person as to whether this is something that the person could handle. As well as this personal life will come into it, as to whether you have other commitments that take up your time during the week too.

I would seek the advice of your teachers at your sixth form, to see if they can advise you of other students experiences that they maybe aware of.

I hope this helps - please let us know if you have any further questions.

Hey Matt,

I went and had a talk with 6 of my teachers today, and they all had different opinions on whether I should drop BTEC Hospitality. This got me really confused because there are so many factors I feel like I have to consider.
I could really use some advice because it's been stressing me out and Year 13 only started a few days ago.

So some background information:
The A-level subjects that I take are Math, Economics, Accounting and BTEC Hospitality. I want to study something along the lines of Accounting, Finance or Economics at university, and I'm considering going to the UK for my undergraduate studies.

Originally, I was only planning to take BTEC Hospitality in Year 12 to keep my career paths open, but I later realized I was not really interested in the subject, and I was considering dropping it, but I was halfway through the year, so I decided to just finish it and get my grades at the end of year 12. And on results day, I got an AAB (B in Math) and a Distinction in 3 of the BTEC Hospitality units. So, most teachers have said I did really well in year 12 and that if I could keep it up, I could end up with perfect grades by the end of year 13.

Now the situation is, the A-level subjects I do can be very heavy on content and I feel like adding a BTEC which has a lot of assignments every day, so that I can be on top of my work. But the reason I'm struggling with making a decision on whether to drop it is that some universities in the UK need a high number of UCAS points to be able to consider applying to their university. Even though I don't necessarily like the subject, I feel like if I kept it as a backup to keep my UCAS points high because my other subjects do not go so well, I could still apply to some of the top universities in the UK. However, since I was able to get 24 UCAS points from finishing half of the BTEC Hospitality qualification in Year 12 I thought maybe I could just drop it and focus on my three main subjects that I will actually need for universities.

I feel like this is quite a lot to understand, but I would really appreciate it if someone could guide me on what may be the best option in my case.

I'd also like to ask if a student with high UCAS points is more likely to get accepted into a good university even if their grades are not that high, but their UCAS points are high because they did 4 subjects compared to someone who only did 3 subjects. Or even if someone with 4 A-Level subjects that has done really well in them, are they more likely to get accepted into a very good university compared to a student who's done really well but in only 3 A-level subjects?

Thank you once again for helping. I really appreciate it!
