I’ve been offered accommodation in fylde college but I’m having some issues with student finance and they may not be able to give me an answer about my student loan until a couple days after my deadline to accept my accommodation, is there someone i could contact about this?
i got accepted to pendle college and was wondering how competitive the netball teams are and how much it would cost
Hello @Anonymous #1
Congratulations on getting into Lancaster University, and being accepted into Pendle college. I do not play netball, therefore I cannot provide my personal experience, however, I will attach the link to the University's netball Student Union's website. It also contains their social media contacts, and you should get in touch with them as they will provide you with better information as to their competitiveness and cost.

Congratulations on being accepted to Lancaster and Fylde College. Sorry to hear about your circumstance with student finance. If you were to contact Emily at Fylde via this email: [email protected] she may be able to extend the deadline to accept the accommodation.
Hope you find this information useful and goodluck.

Hello there!
Congratulations on your place at Lancaster University. We can't wait to see you in October.
Now in terms of your enrolment, accommodation and such, you will typically receive emails fairly soon in a couple of days after your confirmation so do keep a look out for that. It is best to complete them as soon as possible.

Hello, I recently got offered accommodation with the Cartmel college and was wondering I could switch to a cheaper alternative of just be made aware of what my options are. After working it out and doing a price breakdown, I think I would struggle in that accommodation with that price. I was just wondering if my only option would be looking at accommodation not actually on campus? I am unsure and I don’t really know what to do. I’m sorry if this is any inconvenience.

I have also not received my accommodation email yet, I got my offer at like 8:30 AM because it was my insurance choice so I had to decline my firm choice. However my friends who are going to Lancaster have all gotten their accommodation email. Should I be worried?

Hi,
Congratulations on your offer to study at Lancaster!
Although there are no guarantees that you will be able to make any changes, the accommodation manager, Andrea will be happy to speak to you and try and help in any way possible.
Here is the contact details for Andrea - [email protected] so you can get in touch with them and they can offer any solutions to your problem.
Depending on what accommodation type you chose initially, there might be cheaper options; for example an ensuite would be the most expensive, so you could get cheaper if you went for a shared bathroom. The prices for accommodation in town, as opposed to on campus, are usually cheaper per week but are normally longer contracts, so you end up paying quite similar.
If you are worried about finances, you can speak to your college team about any bursaries or scholarships that they offer, or if a part-time job is something that you could be able to do, I would also recommend this, and I can help point you to our recruitment service for when you start.
Hope this helps! Katie (Lancaster University Student Ambassador)

Hi,
Congratulations on your offer!
Don't worry about having not yet received your offer, these are sent out in batches, meaning yours will be coming, hopefully in the next couple of days. Currently no insurance students have received any offers, but keep a look out on your email, so you don't miss it when it does come.
Thanks Katie (Lancaster University Student Ambassador)
Starting at Lancaster this year to study maths. I know that for the majority of degrees you have to pick a minor subject to go alongside it in the first year. Is there anywhere I can see a list of the options or will I have to wait until registration in September? Thanks.
Hello, I will be studying Accounting and Finance at Lancaster and wondering if I could access some sort of foundation/preparatory material before I start in October so l can feel more confident to start the content as l have no prior experience learning finance
Hii, I recently got an offer of accommodation with Grizedale College and was wondering whether we would have to move out of our dorms during terms ( holidays and such ). I know some of my friends have to do this all the time and thus need to know whether I need to find a storage facility nearby.

Hello!
Congrats and welcome to Grizedale College! Unless your contract specifically states that you are on a shortened contract (less than 36/40 weeks), almost all accommodation in Lancaster allows students to stay in their dorms from the move in day until the end of the contract. You will be able to live on campus or leave your belongings throughout all of the holidays, so do not worry.
I’m new here and not keen on sports. Are there many options of societies to choose from? And does the uni provide free access to musical instruments as I planned to learn some. Thanks in advance!

Hello,
You do not need prior experience to do well in the degree, and there is a lot of additional learning support available at Lancaster, within the Management School and the AcF department, so don't worry at all about lacking prior exposure to Accounting and Finance. Enjoy your summer and rest before the start of the academic year!
However, if you want to get a head start to grow your confidence, there are some nice online resources out there, such as Khan Academy courses with videos and practice questions on Microeconomics and Macroeconomics, both of which you will study in the first year. Furthermore, it's worth brushing up on your maths and calculation skills, to prepare you for the mathematical and statistical aspects of the course.
You will be able to access the Moodle course pages with introductions to the course and recommended reading after registering online and receiving access to your university account, before you start the academic year.
There are some great books as well: Freakonomics, Cartoon Introduction to Economics (volumes 1 and 2), Mankiw's Principles of Microeconomics, The Accounting Game: Basic Accounting Fresh from the Lemonade Stand, Intermediate Accounting, etc... When I studied the Introduction to Accounting and Finance module, some of the books we used for the course were Introduction to Financial Accounting (2019) by Andrew Thomas and Anne-Marie Ward, Business in Context: An Introduction to Business and its Environment, Essentials of Corporate Finance (2020) by Stephen Ross, Randolph Westerfield, and Bradford Jordan, and more.
I hope this helps, don't overthink or worry about starting the course.

Hi,
Because the selection of minor options changes every year, you will be able to see the confirmed list when you are registering in September. Also, do note that not all degrees offer a minor in the first year.
Hope this helps, Polina, Lancaster University Student Ambassador.

Hey!
There are SO many society options to choose from, and many of them are not sports-related. Here is the list where you can explore all the societies affiliated with the Students' Union: Groups @ Lancaster Students' Union (lancastersu.co.uk), however, there are also many "unofficial" societies on campus too.
Is there anything in particular you are interested in? There are a lot of interest-based, activity-focused, departmental, volunteering, and community societies.
Some non-sporty societies I've personally attended and really enjoyed are Edible Campus (the university gardening society, with a lovely community and fun tea breaks), LURPS (Lancaster University Roleplaying Society - multiple tabletop game campaigns and even physical roleplaying, where you get to dress up and wave around a sword), Enactus (a society focused on entrepreneurship and innovative, creative social action) and Bread Society (we came together to play Wii or do quizzes and eat homemade bread).
As for learning an instrument, ULMS (University of Lancaster Music Society) can definitely help you with accessing the musical instruments you wish to play and they offer cheap individual music classes too: Project Teach Music – University of Lancaster Music Society (ulms.org.uk). Additionally, there are pianos located in some of the college bars and there is a music room in Pendle, which students can access via the college porters.
