It’s a place for our new students preparing to join us in autumn 2024.
If you’re looking for guidance on what to do before you arrive, the first thing to do is visit our Welcome site at lancaster.ac.uk/welcome.
We’ve also set up this thread so you can connect with other new students before you arrive. And we’ll have some current students here to help answer your questions.
I got accepted into Lancaster and was offered accommodation at Cartmel college. This would have been the ideal accommodation for me if SFE didn't suddenly reduce me funding to the point where accom options have become very limited. Luckily I was able to change my accommodation to a cheaper alternative, but I'm still very worried that I would struggle and possibly not enjoy first year as I hoped. I guess I wanted to ask if lancaster uni offer great opportunities for part-time jobs? And can accom be paid per week instead of per term?
Hi! I’ve been offered accommodation at cartmel college (yippee) and was wondering if i’d get the chance to contact my flatmates before meeting them in person - I’ve got an en-suite with a shared kitchen and if so where could i find this information? If there’s not an offical list of who’s sharing kitchens with who, is there a floor number i could find to ask people if they have the same to figure it out that way? Thanks xx
Hi, I've been accepted into county collage and wondered if there is a way of contacting my house mates?! Before I turn up for Freshers. I also wondered if there is a full list of fresher's events anywhere, as I don't want to miss out on anything!! Thanks x

Hi @Anon!
Congratulations on being accepted! There are plenty of part-time jobs on offer within the university and in the city itself. Here is a link to the vacancies that the university offer: https://temps.lancaster-university.co.uk/vacancies/vacancy-search-results.aspx . I work for the university as a Student Ambassador and it's one of the best jobs I've had as it's flexible hours and you get to meet other Lancaster students through your role.

Congratulations on your acceptance! I would suggest following Cartmel College on Instagram @cartmelcollege because they may post about a Cartmel groupchat to join where you might be able to find people living in your accom. However, please don't worry too much about contacting your flatmates before you move in because during Welcome Week you will have lots of time to get to know your flatmates and meet other new students too! Usually, each accommodation is assigned a couple of Freshers Reps (Lancaster Students in their 2nd or 3rd Year) during Welcome Week who will encourage you and your flatmates to get to know each other but they're also there to support you, ask any questions you have and make sure you have fun!
Is it possible to ask the accommodation manager to assign me and my friend in the same flat? Anw, I'm in Grizedale townhouse so would love to make acquaintance with flatmates in advance ^^
Hi @anniee06 !
Townhouse Accommodation is great! For this kind of query, I would suggest contacting your Accommodation Manager or emailing [email protected] .

We can't wait to welcome you to campus soon! When it comes to contacting your flatmates prior to arriving on campus, I would suggest following @countycollege on Instagram as they may advertise a Freshers' Groupchat to join and meet fellow County students. Don't worry if you can't contact your flatmates before you arrive though as you have a whole week to get to know them and attend a range of events with them.
Hi, can expect registration and accomodation emails on weekends or is it only on business days?
Hi @chinmaya varma !
Thank you for your question! You are more likely to receive emails between Monday-Friday, however, as long as you keep checking your emails regularly you shouldn't miss anything. If you're worried that you're not receiving emails from the university do email your College Manager just to make sure you're receiving important communications.

does accommodation have to be paid weekly? Or monthly?
does accommodation have to be paid weekly? Or monthly?
Hi,
Although the rates are listed in terms of the weekly price, I believe payments are either made in one instalment or paid on a termly basis. Details on dates on when they will have to be paid will also appear on your invoice once you are sent one.

Hi, I have not received any accommodation offers yet, my place was confirmed on ucas do I need to do anything else? Lancaster was my insurance, I feel a bit worried about no accommodation offers yet, when does offers come through for insurance students?
Hi, I've confirmed my accommodation at Bowland College. Just wondered if it's possible to work out which of the areas of Bowland I've been assigned (main/South/East/Halls/Halls/Slaidburn/Ash/tower) based on the weekly price? I'll be paying £139.58 per week. Thanks.

Hi, congratulations on getting in to Lancaster! Yes the uni offers many part time jobs whether it's working at the shops on campus or being an ambassador for the many departments there are, you'll have many opportunities to get involved in! The accommodation payment is split into 3 termly payments, if you have concerns please do get in touch with your accomodation manager or the accommodation team who can be found at: [email protected]
Hope that helps, Rachel, Lancaster University Student Ambassador.

Hi, It's great to know that you have confirmed your accommodation choice! For this kind of query I would suggest directly contacting the Bowland Accommodation Manager at [email protected]. They should be able to help.
Will we be emailed with a list of names of those we are sharing a kitchen with (I'm Cartmel ensuite so no bathroom being shared) - I know this is the case with a webpage link for unis like Bristol and was wondering if it's the same for Lancaster. Also, do you know when we'll be emailed asking us to pick our modules & minor courses for the term/year? Thanks!
