Anyone else in Cartmel studying an LEC subject? I'm doing Physical Geography Msci with a study year abroad!!
Will we be emailed with a list of names of those we are sharing a kitchen with (I'm Cartmel ensuite so no bathroom being shared) - I know this is the case with a webpage link for unis like Bristol and was wondering if it's the same for Lancaster. Also, do you know when we'll be emailed asking us to pick our modules & minor courses for the term/year? Thanks!
Hi @Alixolotli Usually you don't get to know who you will share a flat within at Lancaster until the move in date. However, if you want to chat to other people in your college before you arrive, i would advise joining the official college freshers chats which can be found usually in the linktrees attached to each colleges social media accounts. In terms on modules, I believe your department will be in touch about picking these over the next couple of weeks and then in welcome week you usually meet with a lecturer from your department to have a final discussion about what modules you've picked. Hope this helps! -Jasmine (Lancaster Student Ambassador)

Hi @Alixolotli Congratulations on being accepted! I've just finished my undergraduate degree in physical geography and have absolutely loved my time at Lancaster. The course has been so practical and hands on, in terms of labs and fieldtrips etc.. which has been great and the lecturers have been so helpful in offering support with lots of different things. If you have any questions about the course or Lancaster in general, feel free to ask! -Jasmine (Lancaster Student Ambassador)
Hi just wanted to ask when freshers will receive their timetable for the year
Hi Anon, I believe the university releases the timetable for undergraduate students a couple of weeks before term starts. However, if you have any questions regarding timetabling or module choices, I would recommend speaking to your department as they will be best to advise. Hope this helps! -Jasmine (Lancaster Student Ambassador)

Hi,
Sorry to hear you're having issues. You'd be best ringing the accommodation team on 01524 594910 and speaking with them regarding this.
I am a student who is planning to start a maths degree and was considering what minor to take, both options I am considering I haven't studied since GCSEs.
My first option was computer science which I took at GCSE and got a grade 7. Does anyone know whether this is suitable level of knowledge to take this minor and if it is recommended as a good option to take with maths?
My second option is spanish which i got a grade 5 at foundation level at GCSE. Does anyone know if taking a language minor at a beginner level is difficult? Also since it is at beginner level can this negatively impact grades since there are people taking it at an advanced level or is this irrelevant?
Hi, just wanted to ask a question about how the buses work in Lancaster. I’ll be living in the city and was wondering if the buses in Lancaster have a tap on tap off system like First Bus or if you have to ask the driver for a ticket?

Hello!
Stagecoach is the bus services providing company in Lancaster, and they offer different tickets and travel plans. You can buy a single or return ticket directly from the driver, or purchase it through the Stagecoach app. A single ticket usually costs £2. There are lower prices for certain ticket types for under 19s.
A word of personal advice too: if you cycle, then Lancaster is a great and safe spot for that type of commute! You can either bring a bike here, rent one on campus or buy one of the used bikes.
Additionally, there was a free Sainsbury's bus every Wednesday afternoon between campus and town (if you show a valid Sainsbury's receipt).
Hope this helps, let me know if you have any more questions! Polina, Lancaster University Student Ambassador.

Hey!
As a computer science student, I can tell you that the degree itself doesn't require any perquisite knowledge of computing theory or coding (although it is naturally useful for making the studies easier). Both computer science minor and the CS course begin from fundamentals in the first term, and quickly catch you up to the required level.
For the Spanish minor (and most other foreign languages), there are usually two separate minor options offered: beginner and advanced. The beginner option assumes very little/none prior knowledge of the language, while the advanced option expects you to be confident in A-level Spanish.
Ultimately, if you have the option to take a minor, you could study either of them. 😊
A good option for a minor is the one that you enjoy, or the one that aligns with your interests and/or goals (and you enjoy). You will be able to explore the content and requirements for each minor and decide whether it is right for you when you are choosing which minor to enrol into.
I hope this helps and let me know if you have any questions at all about either of the minors. Polina, Lancaster University Computing Ambassador.
Hi all, I was just wondering whether as Lancaster is one of very few universities which is collegiate, would we have a matriculation ceremony, please? Thank you!
Hello, I recently got offered accommodation with the Cartmel college and was wondering I could switch to a cheaper alternative of just be made aware of what my options are. After working it out and doing a price breakdown, I think I would struggle in that accommodation with that price. I was just wondering if my only option would be looking at accommodation not actually on campus? I am unsure and I don’t really know what to do. I’m sorry if this is any inconvenience. Thanks
hey, what happened did manage to find a cheaper campus accomodation ?

Hi,
We are a collegiate university but we do not have matriculation ceremonies. Most courses do graduate with their colleges at the end of the degree though.
Thanks, Tineke Lancaster University Student Ambassador
