How to gain lab experience

Hi there,

I am a few weeks away from finishing my MSc in Nutrition and want to go on to do a PhD. However, the first few I've applied for I've been unsuccessful with due a lack of lab-based experience.

I haven't had much of an opportunity to do any lab based work for my undergraduate dissertation, nor for my post graduate dissertation, but have some basic experience with both lab based techniques and people based practical sessions.

I was just wondering what advice people would give to gain some more experience to help with my PhD applications and interviews.
