Academic help

I’m in year 12 and I’m going into yr 13, this September, and I honestly want to do a different subject but I’m not sure what to choose. Does anyone have any good career options that could include sciences but mainly other careers that aren’t science?

What subjects are you taking and are you allowed to switch at this stage?

Taking any science subject for a level will allow you to get a lot of jobs you can do anything from investment banking, teaching, forensics, law ( if you have any essay subject), real estate, psychology, accounting, business , sociology, film/media, geography, history etc. With these types of degrees you don't necessarily need specific a levels and you can do a wide range of careers.

I’m taking Btec applied science and health and social care which is also a btec. And I’m not sure if I can switch. But I’ve never wanted to do these courses sadly

Ohh okay. Thanks for this info. I’d also like to add. I’ve been wanting to do optometry but I don’t do A levels and I can’t do it cause of my GCSE’s and considering I’m 17, school won’t allow me to resit GCSE. And even if I wanted or needed to do A levels, it’s not looking too good. Do you have any advice for this? It would very much be appreciated also.

Have you looked into other colleges because I know some colleges allow you to do T levels and other qualifications which only last a year or some last more. But I'm pretty sure you can start at 17 or 18 if you really wanted to switch.

Hmm unfortunately for optometry you might need an a level or two alongside btec but I'm not 100%. Some universities might accept btecs especially in applied science. I know someone who did similar btecs to you and she got into university for midwifery I think so it is possible. What other qualifications would you consider getting if you were to swap because considering you want to do optometry I think your btecs are currently the best ones you can take unless you want to do something else in the future.

Yeah for optometry they can accept Btec but as you said, alongside an A level (at least) but I can’t do that. And that’s the thing, I don’t know what else to choose besides optometry which I can’t do. And I’m not sure what I want to do in the future. My dream of being an optometrist has been shattered and I have nothing else as a plan B. So I’m quite lost. Thanks for the response also .
