Queens University Belfast

hi so I’m looking at the Anthropology/ Anthropology and Philosophy course at Qub and spoke to in passing to an alumni who said Qub is very academic and was wondering if this makes it appealing to employers? My mums worried about the undergraduate of Anthropology at a non Oxbridge/ Edinburgh/ St Andrews university being less desirable by employees (sorry if this question seems jumbled)

Hi, I’m no expert on the matter.
Personally from what I can gather, QUB is a good Russel group Uni that is relatively academic and a degree from there would be respected.
In terms of Oxbridge/St Andrews they are better universities than QUB but much harder to get into.
Another thing to bear in mind is that QUB is one of only two Universities in Northern Ireland. Therefore, when you go there it tends to be that most people there will know at least a few people from their school already there. Apparently this can make it relatively hard to make new friends although I believe this is often over hyped.

Another thing is the cost, QUB is relatively inexpensive for people from Northern Ireland and even for people from the rest of the UK as Belfast is not as bad as other big cities in the uk in terms of cost of living.

Overall, QUB is a good academic uni. However, I would look at the university rankings to gauge how academic it is for your specific subject.

In my opinion it is a good second choice if you are able to get an offer from st andrews or Oxbridge as it tends to give lower grade requirements.
