Please help - clearing

I just want to see what other people would do in this situation.

I did really bad in my A-Levels, I got CCD. I was predicted AAB. I really struggled in year 13 and had a very low attendance. I expected my grades to be bad and I was planning on taking a gap year to resit anyway as I know I can do so much better. I had a look at clearing and made a rash decision to do accounting and finance at NTU. I got an offer to do it and I am interested in doing the course. However I just feel disappointed and like I could have done much better, and not to offend anyone but I’m unhappy with the uni I ended up at. I do know that I’m lucky to have the offer do to the course at NTU, but I’m not sure if I want to go through with it or resit and apply again next year.

What would you do in this situation?

Hi there,

Sorry you're feeling like this. It sounds like you're leaning more towards resitting your A-Levels. Picking a university is a big decision, and you should feel happy and secure in your decision, which it doesn't sound like you are. I think if I was in your situation, I would take a gap year, resit, and apply again next year, as you need to be happy with the decision you have made.

I hope that helps, best of luck

Hey @rube776 🙂 If you're not feeling great about your course then it's ok to change your mind. Results day is a stressful time and it can feel a bit overwhelming. If you force yourself to do a degree you don't 100% love then it might not set you up in the best way to succeed.

You can always take a gap year, re-asses your options and reapply next year. You could also take the time to visit NTU and find out more about the course and chat to some students. Not taking up the offer this year doesn't mean it's not an option next year!

Wishing you lots of luck whatever you choose!

Hey @rube776 👋

I'm sorry to hear that your grades did not meet your expectations. You should still be proud of yourself, however - CCD are great grades to obtain in your A-levels, especially considering you were struggling and had a low attendance.

"I'm unhappy with the uni I ended up at" makes me believe that you resitting your exams, or continuing your search for a university in clearing is the best option for you. The last thing that you want to do is go to a university that you are unhappy with, as ultimately it will make your university experience unpleasant.

Don't make any rash decisions. Have a think about what you'd like to do next, maybe speak to a trusted teacher or family member about how you are feeling.

I'm sure you will make the best decision for you. Best of luck in whichever option you decide to pursue.

Hi @rube776, I understand how you're feeling, remember that your results don't define you - you should still be really proud of yourself for achieving what you have, especially if you were struggling at the time. Results day can be a stressful time and its hard to know what to do and what decision to make.

Definitely take some time to think about what you want to do and take a look at the course page, modules and some of the student stories on the NTU website. Nottingham Business School does have a fantastic reputation - it's internationally accredited, has brilliant facilities and excellent teaching. NTU has also been recently ranked as 1st for Employability in the UK and there is integrated work experience in every course.

I did my undergraduate degree at NTU and also a postgraduate qualification at the Business School and loved it - I found the academic staff so supportive.

Hope this helps and wishing you the best of luck with everything - we hope to see you soon at NTU!

Best wishes,
