Lancaster vs Loughborough - Economics

I have offers to study economics through clearing for both Lancaster and Loughborough and need to decide between the two today. (Missed my conditional offers from Warwick and Kings). I have not been able to visit these universities before, and do not have much perspective about the universities and the specific Economics courses.

Any views or recommendation on the Economics courses here and the broader university life will really help me to decide.

Urgent. Thanks

Hi,
I have visited Lancaster but not Loughborough, it was nice but not for me. My sister is going there and I know she enjoyed visiting there. I believe both unis are campus universities.
If you can't decide I would suggest looking at what is important to you whether that is:
Accommodation
The actual course content
City life
Clubs and Societies
And the university ranking for your subject.
These might help you determine which one you would prefer if more things are to your liking at one.
I would suggest looking at this on the university websites but also on ranking tables if that is important to you.

Hey there!

First of all, congratulations on your offers for economics from both Lancaster and Loughborough Universities. Whilst I do apologise for your missed offers from your previous universities, it is great to know that you were offered places at other equally great universities.

Whilst I did not study economics, I will aim to offer some insight into the course. Economics courses are highly regarded here at Lancaster University as we are ranked 16th place in Complete University Guide and 11th place for Research Quality in Economics and have a high reputation overall. The course itself covers many of the fundamental economic theories and practicals and offers varied modules throughout the years in which can take you different pathways which will give you a wider range of options for careers. They have a dedicated careers teams which offer relevant work experiences and placements for you to be able to experience and ultimately build up your CV. There is more information if you would like to find out which will give you further taste into the course : https://www.lancaster.ac.uk/study/undergraduate/courses/economics-ba-hons-l110/2025/

University life could be intimidating at first to start with but is much greater than it seems. You will have both lectures and seminars and definitely lots of studying. However outside of studies, many students choose to engage in other activites such as joining societies ( Lancaster University has over 175 societies, impressive!) which I did in my first year and that’s how I made some of my friends there actually. University life also included making new friends, spending time outside of university exploring the city and the nearby attractions to see. The most important thing I’d say is to have a good work to life balance, make sure you dedicate enough time to your studies but also to your wellbeing to have a good experience.

Ultimately the choice is yours to consider and see which suits you best to your interests. I hope this helps and if you have any questions, please let me know!
