Have an offer but want to apply to oxford

After any advice please.
Yesterday achieved 3 A*s and have an offer at a good university but part of me is nagging away that i want to try for Oxford.
Can i do any of the following?
a) take a yr out, defer my place but apply to oxford and go through their process in the autumn. If i get through, great...if not i have the deferred place as a fall back. is this possible?
b) start the yr at uni and also go through the oxford process next autumn. if i get through, great ... i can swap uni in the summer...if not i can carry on at current place. is this possible?

any other suggestions? any help is appreciated
thanks

What subjects did you get the A* grades in and which course are you applying for?

Whilst I have no doubt you will get a university place if you take a year out and reapply, you have no guarantee of an Oxford place.

If memory serves, both (a and (b cannot be done and so you need to either accept your current uni place and stick with it or decline it and take a year out to reapply.

Hello!

First congratulations on your results and your offer, that is very impressive! You should be very proud of yourself.

It is understandable you may want to study at a different university especially one like Oxford. Whilst i did not study at Oxford, i can try give you some advice.

In this scenario it would be best to discuss this with your sixth form / university you hold an offer with, see what they can advise you on.

If you are heading for the first option, most universities do let you defer your entry up to a year but i recommend contacting your university first to discuss this. It would be best to consider if you have a plan for the gap year, maybe perhaps getting a job or doing something you would enjoy?

Ultimately it is your choice to make at the end and you will still have your university you hold an offer with to go to if you change your mind!

I hope this helped in a way. I wish you the best of luck in the future!

You cannot do either a) or b) - Oxford will not accept applications from undergrad students currently on-course or with a deferred place to start elsewhere unless there are exceptional circumstances.

You would have to decline your current place, take a year out, and redo the whole UCAS process, including Oxford as one of your choices.
thanks to all for the replies
