Staying home for Portsmouth university

Hi does anyone have experience with living at home going to Portsmouth university as I’m considering my options and what to see how people found it as I’m scared I’ll be isolated

Hey, how are you?

Whilst I wasn't a student at Portsmouth, I did live at home during my time at university and commuted. It helped that my university was a short car journey away. I didn't think it impacted me at all, I did decide to just focus on my studies instead of getting involved in student life, just personal preference, but if I had wanted to get involved in student life I definitely had the chance still. I knew people who commuted and still found it easy to make friends, join clubs and societies, go to freshers events, have study sessions with course mates etc

What will you be studying? I hope you have the best uni experience, I'm sure you'll love it 🤗
Good luck!

Hey there,
Although I do not live at home, I stay in student accommodation within Portsmouth University, I can say that there are many ways to make friends and get involved with any socializing within the university. We hope that you wouldn't feel isolated and so there are many ways to not feel this way as well as support systems such as the chaplaincy and student well-being if you ever feel low and honestly they are a huge help.
I can understand how challenging it can be to live at home however we do have so many societies and 34 sports teams, this way you can meet new people and broaden your friendships with new people.

If your not staying in Portsmouth and are living some where outside of this, I'm sure there will be group chats from your course or other things you are interested in, as well as you may find you are not the only one which may offer some comfort.

I hope all the best for you and I'm sure wherever you are staying and whatever you are studying, you will be great and have an amazing university experience.

All the best
