Boots Christmas Temp Interview

Hi.
I’m starting next week Saturday now which is good. I was also just wondering do you know if Christmas temps get any days off? Because I realised that I’m going to be working around my birthday and I usually do something on my birthday weekend to celebrate. I read my contract but it didn’t specificy about Christmas temps.

Hi 😊 😊

Wow a big congratulations to you getting a job with boots and I hope you are absolutely excited about it.

As a temporary Christmas staff member your role is to cover the full-time staff holidays etc plus help with the extreme pressure of retailing at the busiest time of the year.

Now it all really depends on whether your store you are working in actually open Christmas day and boxing day, and also New year day because there's a lot of the bigger stores throughout the whole of the UK actually open Christmas and boxing days and also New year day so you may be rota to work those days if it happens you work on them anyway, it's usually overtime for staff to work those days, if you are only working on a Saturday only then you'll be fine with just working your usual day. I wouldn't be asking for time of for your birthday if you were scheduled to work those but you can always ask your manager if it's okay for you not to work a specific day but willing to work any other days to make up.

My store opens New year day, boxing day but my actually contractual contract hours and days are weekends only but because I have to work shifts as a nurse I am able to reschedule my days for when I have days off....( I do have a absolutely brilliant manager which helps as I'm not the only one who has to reschedule contractual contract hours and days).

Hope you will thoroughly enjoy your time working with boots and hopefully it will lead to a permanent job offer.
If potentially I did want to swap the day with another day, how much time in advance should I give?

I would wait until you have worked a few weeks ( say ask your manager about end of October - this would be giving them plenty time to get someone else to work/cover your shift) in boots first before you speak with your store manager about swapping the day. If your birthday is on the Saturday ( the day you are working) then suggest you will work say the Monday to make up for swapping the Saturday.

It also sometimes depends on you able to get another staff member to swap with you in the first place ( each store manager has there own rules on staff requesting things like this), it should be fine.

You are welcome 🤗 🤗 for the best advice I can give you for interview.
I'm sure you will do absolutely fantastic this time around when you do the interview.
Just do your up most best on the day ❤️
I hope it goes well for you 🙏 🙏 look forward to update on it.

Hi again!

I had my boots interview today and I think it went well. It was a very different atmosphere compared to my last one, the people I met were way nicer than those at the last store. The interview was also quite different as well this time as instead of asking me questions about how I would deal with customers or questions about why I wanted to work there the hiring manager was more casual - he simply asked for my availability and days I couldn't work. He also told me that he was more interested in attitude and personality and if he thought they would work well with the team which is good as I had met one of his colleagues prior and she had told him that I was quite nice which was great to hear

I'm feeling positive about this one so I'll keep you updated on this, thank you for all your advice!

Hi

Congratulations on having your interview with the other boots store 🤗🤗🤗

Its must be great to have a completely different atmosphere for your interview in another store and I'm pleased you had that because you seemed more happy with this interview compared to the other one you had.

Each individual store manager can make a big difference for people in there interview and it looks like this one made it more comfortable with what you have said about it.
Different managers will ask different questions which you seen today.

To be honest with you if you have a nice interview then if you are offered the job then you know that working with this store will be amazing.

I hope everything goes well with you getting a offer in due course, did they say when you will hear from them about the decision.... Just keep a eye on your online account as usually they put it on there before you get a call 🤙. You should hear very quickly because they will be wanting to get you all trained up before the Christmas rush starts to pick up in the coming weeks.

I'm pleased to try and assist you with things and I really hope you get it 🙏 🙏 ❤️ look forward to updates.

Hopefully you'll be getting good news soon.

In the meantime I think you should try to apply for any other jobs with boots and see what happens. Okay if you were to get a interview with another store before you hear back then it gives you an ultimatum if you were successful with both of you can just cancel the interview for the other job.

Remember that they are looking for quite a lot of people for cover for the next three months minimum so there'll be opportunities still available.

Look forward to your updates ☺️ ☺️ ☺️

Hi,
I’ve just finished my first shift. It was 8 hours so from opening to closing of the store. There were loads of other Christmas temps there that had started recently so I got along well with them. I was on tills majority of the time and at first it was a bit daunting but after a while I got used to it and it was really fun.

Hi

Well done for getting through your first day working with boots.. so you working a 8 hour shift ( so you will be in the store for about 9 hours and then your hour lunch break).

Glad you are getting to know the other temporary staff as that will make you feel better working alongside people who started with yourself.

There's nothing to worry about doing tills as you just need to ask for assistance if you are unsure about something and never be afraid to keep asking okay until you are happy to do things yourself, you'll get use to doing the tills if on them constantly, if you are not doing tills all the time then you can forget what to do sometimes so you need to ask for help. Tills are fun as you get to chat with the public while you are scanning there stuff.

Hope you will continue enjoying yourself with boots as sounds like you had a brilliant first day.

How many days/ hours are you doing per week.

Hi!
It’s been over a week now since my interview and I still haven’t heard anything back from boots and I don’t know when I will hear back at this point, I’m still waiting before I call in and ask. I have also been checking my online account a lot as you mentioned before that it would show up on there but I’ve been checking everyday and nothing has shown up yet. When do you think I should call and ask about the job?

Hi,
I also didn’t hear back from my interview for a while. In the end, I contacted them and then they got back to me. I asked someone else at my work and they said the same happened to them (that they didn’t hear back until they contacted them).

So maybe you could email them or give them a call?

Hi

What I suggest is you can try and phone the store you applied for and ask for the manager and ask if they can give you a upgrade, or if you are passing it then Pop in.

Sometimes they can take around ten or more days to contact anyone who is successful as you don't know if they are still doing interviews and they can just be holding back until they complete all the current interviews before notify people.

Your online account will definitely tell you one way or another if you successful or not okay as they do notify people either way usually.

Try not to look desperate when contacting them, yes I understand you want to know what is happening regardless things.

I would look and see if there's any more vacancies with that store or another one and apply for it until you know what is happening.

Yeah you were a good few weeks when you contacted them and then you were offered a job.

Like I said to sweetsalt007 they can take ten days or longer before you hear from them.

I suggested that they either call them or Pop in if passing, forgot about emailing.

I am doing 16 hours across the weekend. (So 8 hours Saturday and 8 hours Sunday).

You are welcome for late response okay.

So you are basically doing the same contractual hours as I'm doing over the weekend but sometimes I have to go in during the week to make it up due to my shifts.

Keep me posted on how you are doing. You can always PM me.

Hi, thank you for your advice,
I was considering popping by and asking but I think I might just call them today

mini update,
I called in earlier today to ask and the person I called told me they’d talk to the manager whenever they’d see him, so hopefully I hear back soon.

Hi
Thanks for the update on things with your boots interview x
Glad you actually called them and you were able to get some clarification.
I would give them a day or two to get back to you and if not got a answer by Friday perhaps Pop in to them and see if they can give you a answer there and then.

You'll either get a call back if they pass the message on to the manager or look at your online account for updates. There's nothing much you can do until then.

But in meantime see if there's anything else available for any local boots stores within your area and apply for it and if you get a response back from the one you waiting for and get offered a job then you can always withdraw your application for anything else you applied for online as details are there for that.
