metal works accommodation bristol

Has anyone else been placed in metal works for their accommodation? The move in date is really tragic as it’s after freshers week. Does anyone know what they’re going to do for freshers week?

I have and I’ve got no clue what I’m going to do. I’ve checked other accommodations and they check-in before freshers week. It’s a joke.

Same here. Spoke to accommodation office and they said they would be doing something else to welcome them but I’m also concerned that it could be later.
reason is apparently it’s a totally new build and the contract was for handover for occupation for first week of term, agreed a few years ago when freshers was the first week of term.

Wonder if we should try to get together w metalworks gang to stay in a cheap place if we can find it to meet each other in town. Just taking like one case and packing the rest for the next week. Maybe even ask parents to bring it to save missing the weekend.

Can’t even buy tix for freshers events at this point.

Yeah, I can’t think of anything else to do. Made the mistake of checking hotel prices to see if it would be feasible to just stay the week in and they were too pricy 😭

Like many on here, my son was somewhat disappointed and dismayed to receive an offer of a place at Metal Works Bristol and learning that despite freshers week starting on the 9th of September, Metal Works accommodation won't be available until the 14th. This will make it extremely difficult for first year students to meet before the pressures of attending lectures begin and deny many of them what should be an exciting start to a new chapter in their lives.
I am very disappointed with the way The University have communicated very little about how they intend to mitigate this or even offering any sort of apology!

Shame on you University of Bristol!

Totally agree with you. My son was offered Metal Works and while he is grateful to have a room it is far from ideal missing out on Freshers Week. University of Bristol term starts surprisingly early and before any other university and if they knew that Metal Works wasn’t going to be ready until 14th they could have started the term a week later. As you said too there has been zero communication from the University about this.

Still unsure what to do. We have friends in Bristol our son could stay with but the whole point is to meet fellow students and go to Freshers with them. It’s just crazy that University of Bristol didn’t think (or care!) or even communicate anything about this; let alone put a plan in place beforehand. Such as starting term on the same date as the rest of the country rather than so early.

Stop snarking you’ve made your point. Did you not have parents who saw you off when you left home. Or maybe you were oblivious to how they helped you.
