Work from home jobs before commencing pupillage

I’m hoping to apply for pupillage next year in the hopes I can start in 2026. Which means I probably will need to find a job in between. Are there any realistic legal work from home jobs that you’ve are familiar with? Or other roles that would help boost my CV that can be performed from home

The resident barristers on this forum will know more but to best increase your chances of obtaining pupillage you need to be looking and applying for the best & most relevant legally related roles you can find to increase your experience and boost the CV.

They will almost certainly not be work from home roles, and most junior legal roles tend to be predominantly office based.

Appreciate my next comment sounds very "boomer-ish" - but particularly early on in your career, learning by osmosis and hearing/listening to how more experienced colleagues deal with problems and difficult clients and conversations etc... is incredibly helpful and something you do miss out more on when working remotely.

Agree with comments from poster above that most legal roles will require you to be in the office / place of work.

However, there are hybrid paralegal roles. I have seen some advertised on Indeed and through Flex Legal (maybe check them out online). The CAB have some hybrid / wfh roles. It is also worth considering roles within the civil service as they generally operate a 60/40 wfh / office split.

It is quite unlikely that roles with HMCTS / CPS will have this split due to the nature of the role / department requiring staff to be present in the office / at court on a daily basis.

Hope this helps and gives you some ideas to start looking for a legal job! 😊
I agree with the above comments. Realistically whilst firms may well be more flexible with this sort of thing, decent paralegal roles are likely to be predominantly if not exclusively office based, and that is actually a good thing for your professional development. This is not a box ticking exercise where X role will automatically make your application better. The actual development of your skills is really important, and makes a significant difference to your written application. It is also worth noting that you should be looking for advocacy roles as well, and remote hearings aside, you obviously can't do those from home in large part. Is there a particular reason why you need to work from home?
