Hey! i applied this year for child nursing & was able to get offers from all of my choices.

Experience wise, you’ll ideally want some experience working with children, but honestly anything is valuable - working in a shop, working with people, everything helps towards skills they’re looking for like communication, care etc. I had experience in a nursery, as well as schools for sick/disabled children.

Anything that shows you’re interested in nursing/care is good too, i personally did an online NHS work experience through somewhere called springpod, but i know that some people had first aid training, worked in care homes etc

Personal statement wise, you’ll want to show what made you want to be a children’s nursing and why you’re applying. Definitely mention all of your qualifications and experience and make sure link back to how doing these things has made you ready and gave you the skills for a nursing degree, and include the 6C’s in this! If you do a google search, there’s lots of examples for personal statements too

Good luck!
THIS IS ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I started my personal statement although im 50% done. My introduction is HORRIBLE so probably have to redo that paragraph.

Experience wise I did a 5 day work placement at my old primary school (working with the reception class) Im planning to do a virtual 'health and social care' work experience on springpod. If you are interested, the link is here: https://www.springpod.com/virtual-work-experience/health-and-social-care/WEXP-00073?queryID=7fee32deff6fdbc70ac6ce430b9f0e0c&pos=2&fromUrl=%2Fvirtual-work-experience%2Fsearch%3Fq%3Dhealth%2520and%2520social%2520care .

Also i do alevel psychology, geography and philosophy & ethics. ( I initially wanted to do alevel psychology, sociology and media - but the classes were full ☹️) wbu if you dont mind sharing?

The universities that im thinking of applying to are: KCL, City UOL, Kingston, Buckinghamshire New Uni and London South Bank! (I live in london so i picked unis in london cuz im planning to commute!

hi, i do media, psychology and btec helath andd social care. I have done a course on springpod already but haven't done a work exoerience in person for child nursing. Hopefully i am able to do one to add to my personal statement. Im not sure for my options for uni yet but kcl is defo one of my options.
Hey it was adult nursing I applied for 3 years ago but I basically stated a lot to do with the experiences I got from school. I was a prefect, done peer tutoring in a classroom as well as partake in a “buddying” system so i said that it showed me how to basically connect and work with others (I don’t 100% remember but just basics). If you have done anything like that defo include it. Our school also offered us a weeks work experience where we chose an area and I did it in my old primary school. So I had quite some experience of working with children.

Having just left school they won’t expect you to have work experience especially not healthcare but if you’ve had or have a job definitely write about that and what you’ve learned. Unis are interested in your personal skills and what you have learned particularly from all of these things.

Perhaps think about occasions where you’ve helped others? For example I mentioned helping out with my brother growing up as he has special needs. This might be one of the questions they ask during your interviews where you have to think about any time in particular where you’ve given any type of care to someone else.

Finally just make sure you state why you want to do the course and what you would bring to your role as a nurse. Best of luck!

Hi,

I'm currently a 2nd year childrens nurse at Wrexham University, through my experiences so far I have found the course has been amazing.

For your personal statement: Similarly to what other people have mentioned to you, ensure you include any qualifications and experience you have, make sure you link it to how completing these things has made you ready and given you the abilities for a nursing degree, and incorporate the 6C's (this is more if you are looking into English universities, as Wales and Scotland have their own versions - however they do still look for similar!). Wrexham Univeristy have put together a guide to the 'Perfect Personal Statement' also make use of UCAS's Step-by-step guide on 'How to write your undergraduate personal statement' (links below 🙂)

In terms of what universitys are looking for in future generation nurses it might be worth giving a read over the following link, this goes into more depth about what universities look for, and top tips for applying to study nursing! In terms of applying for the course this will vary depending on if you apply via UCAS or through the university itself, but you will most likely recieve an offer for an interview before recieving your conditional offer.🙂

I hope this helps you and free to ask any more questions you may have, good luck out there!
