As the title says, im wondering what the course is like for people currently studying there im currently torn between this and another uni and was looking to see other peoples experiences
It is great to hear you are considering studying with us! I just wanted to give you a little flavour, so you'll have lecturers, seminars, tutorials, lab work and fieldwork!
You'll spend quite a bit of time in lectures, learning the key components and foundations for your modules. You will also participate in seminars, which are smaller, more intimate sessions where you get to dive deeper into the material and discuss it with your peers. It's not just about listening—you’ll get to share your thoughts and hear different viewpoints, which is both challenging and really rewarding. During your tutorial sessions you will develop a more personal connection with your tutor, these sessions are incredibly supportive, offering a chance to talk through any difficulties you're having with the course or your assignments. It’s a space where you can really hone in on areas you want to improve.
Your, fieldwork is one of the most exciting parts of the course. It’s not just about what you learn in the classroom, residential field courses are an opportunity to apply your field skills first-hand in environments studied by our world-leading ecological researchers. Finally, you will also have some laboratory sessions, where you get to roll up your sleeves and apply what you've learned in lectures!
Overall, the course offers a balance of structured learning and the freedom to explore your own interests. It’s designed to not just teach you about zoology, but to help you discover where your own passions lie within the field, courtesy of our optional modules which can be found here.
I hope this helps, let me know if you have anymore questions.
Best wishes, Sophie University of Exeter Student Ambassador.
