Bowland accom

Sorry if this has already been asked, the search function on this site isn’t great!
When do the students find out exactly what building they’ve been offered? I’m guessing based on the information I have, my daughter has Bowland Ash (def Bowland, shared bathroom, £157p/w) but not certain. Also would love to see the inside of an actual room in that building rather than stock photos online.
There’s so much to do before they move in, it would be ideal for the uni to provide actual room layouts/dimensions/specs for accommodation.
Another thing, their student loan payment dates don’t match up up with their accommodation fee due dates, her actual amounts per instalment are short of her accommodation fees too, despite the overall accommodation being less than her loan amount. Does the uni have anything in place for these circumstances? Thank you 😊

Hi,

Congratulations on your offer to study at Lancaster, we hope you have an amazing time!

The accommodation team are currently sending out the offers as to which accommodation they have been allocated, although these are sent in batches, so don't worry if you haven't received this yet. This will be coming soon, so just keep an eye out on your email so you don't miss it.

All the rooms are pretty similar, so any photo online would be accurate as to what the accommodation looks like. I currently don't have the specific dimensions to the rooms, or the layouts, but if you want to contact the Bowland Accommodation manager Becky, you can do so using these details - [email protected] or 01524 594498. She will be happy to answer any questions and be able to provide you with Bowland specific details.

Usually the student finance loans will come the same day as the accommodation is due, but if this is not the case, I would advise again that you contact Becky to let her know your situation, to see if anything can be done to change this, so you have your student loan before you have to pay, as I understand how difficult it might be to pay for this before your loan is sent to you. Sadly, for many students it is the case that the student loan is less than the accommodation fees, because student finance assume that parents can top up the amount, which I appreciate isn't always possible. There is financial support available in colleges (https://www.lancaster.ac.uk/bowland/help-advice-and-support/scholarships-and-awards/), but also we have an excellent employment and recruitment service, for students to get part-time jobs. I would really recommend this, if your student would be able to work alongside their studies, as a way of funding their time at Lancaster, as it is also good to put on their CV for the future. https://temps.lancaster-university.co.uk/registration.aspx This is the link, where you can browse through vacancies, many of which are working through the university, which means they understand that your degree is your first priority!

Hope this all helps, but please feel free to ask any more questions and I will happily help in any way that I can!

Thanks Katie, thanks for replying, that’s really helpful. I’ll have a look at those links and make a note of the accommodation manager’s details. We’re able to subsidise but had planned on the loan covering the accommodation fees because she gets more than they cost overall 😊

I have some more questions… is there a dishwasher in the shared kitchens? What is the mattress size in the standard bedrooms (think she’s in Bowland Ash)? And re:shared bathrooms, do you use whichever is free or do you end up being allocated one? Thinking of storage of toiletries and cleaning. Thanks again 😊

Sorry me again, what’s the deal with supermarket deliveries, are they allowed? Thanks 😊
Hi,

I believe for Bowland accommodations, the beds are 200cm long and 90cm wide. You can refer to this link for more info: https://www.lancaster.ac.uk/accommodation/undergraduate/bedrooms-with-shared-bathrooms/#whatx27s-included-in-the-bedrooms-552736-4

I believe the the shared toilet can be used by anyone. Generally, people will be using the closest ones to their rooms then they can agree on specific cleaning rotas or even divide who uses which toilets/bathrooms.

Yes, supermarket deliveries are allowed. You can list your specific address depending on your accommodation. Then, drivers will visit the closest drive-way or drop off point to deliver the groceries.

Hi @mrsLjones
Just to add to what Shabbhi has already said. I found the best thing to do regarding storing toiletries in shared bathrooms was to buy a shower caddy, basically a plastic basket with handles to store your toiletries in, so you could just carry this with you when you wanted a shower. Also there isn't dishwashers in any of the accommodation blocks.
Hope this helps!

Hi,

When I was looking to apply for accomodation, I found this video put out when Ash House was refurbished: https://youtu.be/BLlR-3IsvsE?si=-EJlRaE30bwkaMcB

Hope this helps with an idea of layout, Ella - Lancaster University Student Ambassador
