Advanced higher art or English?

I've been studying English for a month and it's not as fun as much as I thought, so I might change to Art and Design (Design). I got a C in higher art and an A in higher English though, when i was expecting Bs in both, so it seems a bit odd to change to art now (but I'm allowed to take Adv H in art as i passed higher).
I'm likely to get a better grade in English, but Adv H doesn't really matter for uni, art would be more chill.
I haven't chosen dissertation texts yet in English, idk what to pick either.

hi there,

I haven't taken advh english but i am doing advh art so i can give you some information on it. For Art it'll look like this:

You will work on your portfolio throughout the year (Either expressive or design, you only have to do 1)

Unlike nat5 or higher, there is no final exam, but you will write an essay (about an inspiring artist or designer that you'll research). You'll work on the essay throughout the year but your teacher might set deadlines for when to hand it in along with other practical work

The advh art is mostly self-lead but you can ask your teacher if you are confused or need help

If you had no issues with english at higher, I think you might find the essay part okay. However you might want to consider whether or not you enjoyed the practical part of art in higher. Since I don't know what you would do in advh english, i'd recommend you compare the two based on things like:

Do you enjoy the subject?

Which one do you think you'd do best in

Which one would be most helpful or useful to you

If you are still unsure of which to pick, you can ask an art teacher at your school (or your previous art teacher) for advice, or a careers advisor. There will also be people on The Student Room who will have also taken either of the subjects you've mentioned so you can check to see how people have found the subjects too. I hope this helps somewhat!

So i went with art, hopefully I'll feel it was the right choice when I'm bogged down with french and maths work and don't have a dissertation on top of that 😉
