Universities for Physics | Grades AAA

After my complete disaster of a results day, I'm having to reevaluate most of my choices as I achieved AAA in maths, chemistry and physics and continue to hate myself for it but gotta keep the UCAS momentum going. Please suggest me some universities to look at.

P.S. Would be great if someone could also tell me how to explain to my mother that no, I cannot just 'apply to Oxford anyways' when I literally do not meet the entry requirements and that those stories where someone got in with B's are exceptions.

Priorities:
1. Good student support - I am disabled and will need support for this including probably staying in uni-provided accommodation for the entire course as there doesn't seem to be any other way of meeting the accommodation need.
2. Good reputation for physics - I mean this one is kind of obvious. I'd also like to get involved in research during the course if possible, my interests are largely in nuclear, particle and astrophysics.
3. Not in London - There is no way I will ever be able to afford to survive in London, and I also just don't like it.
4. Offers an integrated Master's - I'd prefer to get an integrated Master's as this would still be fully covered by undergraduate funding and pricing rather than the shambles that is postgrad funding.

Current Options:
- Edinburgh [AAA] - I really loved the city when I went there and I like the look of the course. Have recently been hearing bad things about them though, so unsure.
- St Andrews [AAA] - I kind of just put this one down because it has a good reputation and I'm struggling for options right now. Don't know much about it, was going to go there but ran out of time.
- Sheffield [AAA] - Apparently this is a good university for physics and I'm told the city is nice. Again, don't know too much.

Potential Options:
- Warwick - Technically A*AA but I'm eligible for a contextual offer here.
- Bath - A*AA but I might be eligible for a contextual offer pending figuring out my FSM situation. I'd really love to be able to apply here if I can figure that out.
Are you going through clearing or applying for next year?

Applying for next year. I cannot use clearing due to the disability support I need.
First of all I would say AAA is very good and something you should be proud of.
I would suggest looking at league tables for tour chosen picks, emailing the unis to find out more about disability support and looking at their websites for this as well but also for course content and if they do intergrated master's.

This is what I'm doing, but I'm also looking for any suggestions people have for universities I may have overlooked.

If any fancy admin people are watching, can I get this thread moved to wherever is more appropriate? I feel like this may not have been the best place to post, hence the lack of replies.

Nottingham and Southampton might be worth a look. I think they both require AAA for the integrated master's.

As for arguing with your mum: I think I did hear about people getting in with AAB achieved or something. I think it was for PPE or some other courses that require AAA, so they only missed their offer by one grade, and it's also probably the kind of course where A-level success doesn't translate as directly to success in the course (whereas for physics it's fairly clear that the better you are at maths problems the better you'll do). And that was after they had already been given an offer, which is the difficult part with Oxford. Their predicted grades would have been at least AAA or higher when they originally applied. Also practising for the PAT would probably be a distraction from the application process.

I'm pretty sure the ones she read were the ones about that scandal a while back with rich internationals being admitted with significantly lower grades, whether or not she interpreted it correctly I don't know. My physics teacher is calling me tomorrow to talk things through (he was in China on results day but tbh he's the guy I need right now) and I'm probably going to ask him to call her and try to explain since she probably just straight up won't believe me, because anything I say is attacking her.

lol and Prince Edward got in to Cambridge with three Cs. Getting your teacher to speak with her is the right call, they've probably had similar conversations fifty times with other parents but if she doesn't believe him then she won't believe anyone. You've already got some excellent unis in your list and physics is a good degree to have no matter where you studied it.

I legit called what would have been my Oxford college and asked them to explain and then handed her the phone, but she didn't believe literally Oxford itself because 'oh they have to say that to everyone to keep their reputation'. So to say this is a last ditch effort is a massive understatement. Completely unhinged, and she did the same **** when I got rejected from Cambridge (literally tried to force me to physically turn up and demand an appeal?? Like dude I got a 1.0 on TMUA of course they're not going to interview me wtf I literally got 2 marks across both papers).

@Ghostlady might be able to help. Her DC missed an Oxford offer and went to Lancaster for an integrated masters and is now starting her PhD. Not sur if it was physics or astrophysics but..

In my day it was 2 E’s after the Oxbridge exam so…. Edward is not exactly a spring chicken!
I would not recommend St Andrews - I applied with 10x9s and 4A*s predicted and was still rejected - it is very competitive for non Scottish students
