Gap year for maths

Does a gap year with 5A* achieved lower my chances for getting offers from top unis for maths?

I've heard they don't like taking people who take a gap year?

What are you doing in your gap year?
Traditionally top unis don't like a gap year for maths as without practice you will forget a lot of your maths in a year -tbh nowadays I wouldn't be surprised if they were less fussed, but the top unis may still want to know how you're keeping up your maths in your gap year

Yes if you're doing admissions tests (particularly those in the summer as opposed to the autumn) that would be enough  It's more for those say going for Cambridge maths who do the STEP in year 13 that might concern admissions if they had no plans for any maths in their gap year
