Yr13 advice

Heyy,
I’m currently a y12 student going into y13.
I have recently been accepted by a hospital to go and volunteer with them for 6 months, until March.
However, this should be after school. I’m worried bcs I’m already struggling with my subjects.
Do you guys think it’s wise to do this?
If I don’t do this, then I’ll only have my 3 day GP work experience and 1 week shadowing doctors.

Hi,
I would say that at the moment there are four possibilities:
1. You do the volunteering and still managed to get good enough grades to get into uni
2. You do the volunteering and don't manage to get good enough grades to get into uni which may mean you may need to resit and take a gap year.
3. You do not do the volunteering and are still offered a place and have more time to focus on subjects.
4. You you do not do the volunteering and are not offered a place and may need to take a gap year to build up more experience but have higher grades.
I would say in the worst case scenario you have to take a gap year because you do not get offers or miss grades. In in this situation think about if you would rather spend that gap year resetting your A Levels or getting more experience.

Thank you sm for replying, tbh I should think about it.
I am really determined to do better in yr13.
So I think I should do volunteering and get high grades (hopefully).
I mean, if it’s too hard I can always quit right?

How many and what subjects are you taking at the moment?

Are you needing the work experience for your uni application, presumably medicine? If yes, these wex are a bit late if you are applying this year.

If you are applying to medicine this year, no uni (as far as I believe, even for Oxbridge) will be bother on how many months, years wex you have done but more importantly what you learnt and reflected from the whole thing.

It's about quality not quantity.

If you are struggling with juggling with your subjects, then your priority is rather simple in my opinion - pay more concentration to A level.

I’m currently doing bio, chem and maths. I’ve heard that there’s a big jump in all of these subject from yr12 to yr13, so if I’m already struggling with them now, god knows how it’s gonna be in yr13.
I think I’m gonna hold off of the volunteering for now.
Tysmm for ur advice

I'm doing chem, bio, maths and physics. Yes I have heard yr13 is going to be nightmare, plus interviews to go to if my UCAT results is good. Ain't easy, I see next summer is the final free time I will have before med school, that is if I can get into a med school interview.

All e best!
