Maths or Chemistry (HELP!)

GCSE’s results day is in a few days and i’ve already decided on Biology and Geography A-Levels but i’m struggling to decide between Maths or Chemistry. I’m predicted 8-9 in combined sciences and grade 6-7 in Maths I didn’t enjoy Maths in secondary school but i kept on top and i know an A level in it is very versatile however when looking into Chemistry which i found kind of enjoyable i see people saying it’s basically the hardest A-Level so now i don’t know what to pick so if anyone could give me some advice before results day I would be eternally grateful. I was considering going into a degree/field of environmental sciences if that helps.
MATHS!! because it'll help with biology and lightly geography. (i'm also bias) but maths is a wider subject and unless you're pursuing maybe medicine or chemistry related subjects in uni, maths is the better subject

If anyone calls a subject “the hardest A level”, it’s usually because they just don’t know how to study it effectively. As such, it’s worth ignoring people who advise against taking either subject for that “reason”.

Both maths/bio/geography and chem/bio/geography are good combinations as chemistry goes well with biology and biology goes well with geography, plus maths is a good subject to take generally, but it really depends what you want to do post A level. Environmental science would probably benefit more from chemistry than maths, but all university websites outlining their entry requirements for their undergraduate courses in environmental science accept both chemistry and maths and so it’s worth picking the subject you feel you are better at / enjoy more.
For a degree in environmental science, I would be tempted to say that Chemistry would be the better option for you. The difficulty of a subject depends on the individual and Maths is also a very hard subject if you do not have a good understanding of GCSE content. Basically, you prefer Chem and are expecting a higher result in it so I would say Chemistry is the better option for you 🙂

Deffo do chem, if you didn’t enjoy maths at gcse but you liked chem I fear you already have your answer. Never choose a subject that you’re not passionate about because it will end up being a chore to study. Also in regards to the “hardest subject” EVERYONES experience is different so you can’t base a decision on what others negatively label. However best of luck for results day and choose what your heart desires

I agree I do Chemistry especially if you enjoy it more because you will be more willing to put in the effort and the maths in Chemistry isn't that difficult at all. You got this!

I do chemistry A-level. I got an 8 in triple chemistry GCSE and even though it is difficult, I still find it enjoyable. The learning isn't the hardest part I think it's the exam technique. By doing past paper questions it has really helped me. I do biology and geography and find that there is a lot of overlap within the three subjects all together. Even though I don't do maths, I would definitely recommend chemistry, especially if you didn't enjoy maths at secondary school level.

pick the subject which you enjoy more as someone who is doing chemistry A-level after enjoying it at GCSE it is definitely a step up and you will find it difficult at the beginning but I think the key thing about chemistry A-level is staying motivated to keep your grades up. at the beginning of the year I was getting C’s and by the time it was spring//towards my year 12 mocks I managed to get an A. I have friends who picked maths and also find the subject hard, starting with getting low grades at the beginning of the year but have managed to get the grade up towards summertime but again I think if you have the motivation then you’ll be able to do the best that you can. anyways let me stop waffling. My main point is everybody finds a levels hard, no matter what subject you pick!!!!! so the best advice I can give you is to pick a subject that you enjoy so that you are motivated to persevere through the struggle in order to achieve the grades you want to get.
Hi! I am also considering environmental science at uni and I’m planning to do bio, chem and Geog because of the content overlap and coz I love all three subjects. However I am so scared for results day tomorrow coz I am pretty sure I messed up bio rlly badly..
Oh well, we’ll have to wait and see
