Well don't think I can be too much help but there are the obvious CO2 emissions from the combustion C+O2 --> CO2
Fossil fuels also contain sulphur so when fossil fuels are burnt you get sulphur dioxide which causes acid rain (I think?)
You'll also get smoke ie carbon particles which can cause damage.

I would go with the same answer above - lack of oxygen would result in CO released into atmosphere
