Need advice for applying to more than one type of engineering.

Hello, I'm Year 12 looking to apply to both design engineering courses as well as mechanical engineering courses. In my personal statement I've said maybe 3 times mechanical engineering. Would it be okay to remove the 'mechanical' or would it make it too general just repeating 'engineering'.

Could I perhaps say 'mechanical and design engineering' within my statement, or would that not be okay either.

I know this is trivial but I'd like some advice.

It’s definitely okay to say "mechanical and design engineering" in your personal statement, as it shows you're interested in both fields. If you feel like using just "engineering" makes your statement too general, you can use both terms where appropriate to highlight your specific interests. This approach can help you keep your options open while still being clear about your focus.

It's not going to make much, if any, difference. Admissions tutors will be primarily looking at your grades when deciding whether to make you an offer. The main thing is that your PS demonstrates your interest in engineering, and mechanical and design engineering are quite similar courses.

As above any interest in technology, mechanical systems will be relevant, ultimately the degrees often work on the same “things” just at different stages of the development cycle.
For engineering your subject choices and grades are typically far more important than ps.
