Law or Medicine

I'm going into year 12 in September and I'm unsure whether to pick Law of Medicine. I'm naturally better at humanities but in terms of interest, I find stem subjects more interesting. I'm not able to take maths though so would it be better for me to go into Law as maths would work well with medicine. I'm aware of the conversion course into law, but If I choose to pursue law I'd like to have a smooth transition from Uni to getting a job.

Hi,
For medicine maths isn't a necessary requirement, biology and chemistry holds much greater importance than any other A Level for applying to medicine. It is definitely a more challenging course in comparison to law, and does require a certain level of interest for students to thrive in it. I'd recommend you look for some sort of hospital work experience for you to get a taster of the medical environment and see whether or not its to your liking . I'd also recommend you talk to a careers advisor within your college about your course choice as they'd help you direct you to what's better suited.

Do you actually want to to be a doctor. Next term, get some relevant work-experience for Med, like volunteering in a care-home, hospital or hospice, and then decide if the reality of caring for other people still appeals. It might sound impressive or glamorous but the reality of Medicine demands 100% altruistoc commitment, and it isnt for everyone.

Law does not require any specific A level subjects - most people find an essay-subject useful for skills/LNAT but it isnt essential. So you could still apply for Law with science A levels if you decide that would interest you more. It makes sense to take 3 A level subjects that you will enjoy studying and where you feel confident of good grades. Btw. science-heads make good Law students because of the emphasis on logic
