Is it normal for exams to not be in a history course?

So I finished first year of history at university. It really does depend on the modules but I was assessed from Essays to mini word blogs and group projects. I was looking at second year and the modules I will be studying and there are no exams. Just either essays, blogs, coursework and even presentations. I looked at the third year modules and I think one module has exams but that is if you pick it because it is an optional module. The rest is just essays. I remember speaking to people who done a history degree and they said that it is common to not do exams because universities emphasise more on coursework instead? So is it normal or depends on the university? A subject like maths will mainly have exams.

Hi @Artic_Bear345

How a uni decides assess their students changes depending on the university and the course. As you rightly said, Maths across the board of unis will likely include traditional exams. However, humanity subjects like History can very commonly have no exams or very few. I wouldn't say this is necessarily a good or bad thing but seems to be a choice of the uni that you study at. When I did my undergraduate degree in English I purposefully steered away from doing exams in my second and third year so mainly was assessed on essays and other courseworks.
